Is the
IDEA
of Higher Education
as a
PUBLIC GOOD
DEAD?
Higher Education
used to be
part of the
social contract.
state systems Our great
of
Higher Education
were built post-WWII
and into the 1960s
BUT SOMETHING CHANGED…
Higher Education
came to be viewed
as a
PRIVATE GOOD as opposed to a
PUBLIC GOOD
We stopped supporting
higher education for all…
cutting support and raising tuition at
STATE
colleges and universities.
shifting to private
LOANS
and DEBT
Higher Education has many
private benefits…
Higher Education has many
private benefits…
BUT
Higher Education also has
many public benefits…
Higher Education also has
many public benefits…
In reality it is both.
Who wins and who loses
in this tug of war?
is it time for a REVOLUTION?
