What is Automotive Quality Management?
Introduction
ISO/TS 16949 - the globally recognized Quality
Management Standard for the automotive industry.
It brings together
standards from across
Europe and the US and
provides a framework for
achieving best practice
with regards to the
design and manufacture
of products for the
automotive supply chain.

ISO/TS 16949 Requirements
ISO/TS 16949 is an ISO technical specification
aimed at the development of a quality management
system that provides for continual improvement,
emphasizing defect
prevention and the
reduction of variation
and waste in the
automotive industry
supply chain.

The standard has been developed by the International
Automotive Task Force (IATF) and brings together
common processes from across the industry sector.
IATF comprises of nine
member vehicle manufacturers
- Ford, GM, Chrysler, BMW,
VW, Daimler, Renault, PSA
Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat -
along with national automotive
trade organizations from USA,
UK, France, Germany and
Italy.

International Automotive Task Force (IATF)

TS 16949: 2009 is the current version of the
internationally recognized Automotive Industry
quality management system standard . It contains
all of the requirements of ISO 9001 plus several
additional requirements….

Certification to ISO/TS 16949 is often a requirement
for doing business internationally in the automotive
sector -
not only does it help open

The certificate is valid for three years and must be
confirmed annually (as a minimum) by an IATF
certified auditor (3rd Party Auditor) of an IATF
recognized certification body.
Re-certification is
required at the
expiry of the three-
