Access to information on Sri Lankan publications has improved over time. The National Library of Sri Lanka defines Sri Lankan publications as anything published in Sri Lanka, by Sri Lankans, or about Sri Lanka. Major milestones include the introduction of printing in 1737 and the establishment of libraries and legal deposit laws requiring publications to be archived. Several important bibliographies and catalogues have been produced to index Sri Lankan publications covering various formats, time periods, and subject areas. Many libraries and institutions now provide online access to parts of the Sri Lankan publication collection to improve discoverability.
