PROBLEM STATEMENT
To propose a cross layer energy aware rate adaptation
technique for data transmission in wireless mesh
networks based on a new routing metric and adapt the
transmission rate at MAC layer based on statistics
collected by routing metric.
OBJECTIVES
• To provide a best routing metric and rate adaptation technique.
• To achieve minimum end –to-end delay in delivery of data.
• To achieve shortest route to reach the destination node.
• To combine both routing and rate adaption under single entity.
• To monitor the performance in different parameters.
• Calculate the SNR at mac module.
• Calculate the Distance from source node to destination node.
• Calculation of Energy.

• Calculation of SNR:-
SNR is calculated by the following formula.
𝑆𝑁𝑅 = 10 log 𝑅𝑥_𝑃𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟/𝑁𝑜𝑖𝑠𝑒
* Rx Power is the frame signal strength at the receiver. It is
calculated by propagation model.
* Noise should be calculated from the receiver sensitivity of the
data rate used by the frame.

• If other frames arrive to the receiver when it is receiving one
frame, the SNR of this receiving frame is,
𝑆𝑁𝑅 = 10𝑙𝑜𝑔
𝑅𝑥 𝑃𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟
𝑁𝑜𝑖𝑠𝑒 + ∑𝑖 = 1 𝑅𝑥_𝑃𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑖
• Rx_Poweri is the signal strength of other frames at the
receiver.
CALCULATION OF DISTANCE:-
If the (x1, y1) is the position of the first node and
(x2,y2) is the position of the second node then the
distance between the two nodes is been calculated
by the following formula.
• 𝑑 = 𝑥2 − 𝑥1 2
+ 𝑦2 − 𝑦1 2 0.5
PROCESS:-
• Firstly we sense the traffic load at the mac layer, then we check the
neighbor node sensing that we check all the paths available from
source to destination. Then we calibrate that which is best suited
path for transmission of data from source to destination.
• If two paths have the same distance but one node is been involved in
another transmission then we choose the free path for transmission of
packets from source to destinations.
• After the path is selected we calculate the SNR using the above
formula considering the transmission power and receiving power with
the noise as explained above in the formula.
• Like this we are reducing energy required in the wireless networks
for transmission of data.

Where
 E represents energy
 d represents distance for destination node
 P represents the power with the snr calculated.
 Tx represents the transmission time for one packet.
 K represents the total number of transmitted packets from the source node.
