Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Assam on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, covering 430 square kilometers. It was established in 1905 to protect the endangered one-horned rhinoceros after the wife of the Viceroy of India visited and did not see any. The sanctuary is home to over 1000 rhinos and 700 elephants, as well as deer, wild boar, buffalo, and various reptiles and birds. However, authorities recently admitted 9 tigers died in the park over 3 months, which wildlife experts believe could be higher and due to poaching rather than the reasons provided.
