Solid Use cases? First ideas
1. Photo management apps (e.g. Flickr alike)?
2. Open publications apps (e.g. presentations)?
3. Smart farmer data Pods & apps (WUR-case)?
4. Sharing economy Pods & apps (e.g. Common Bike)?
5. Social Linked Beer Pods & apps (e.g. Untappd alike)?
6. Digital Play-a-LOD apps (ontology games for kids)?
7. PLDN community website (with expert profiles)?
Solid Use cases? First ideas
8. Reference data Pods, apps and/or lookup services
9. Open dictionaries Pods & apps?
10.Law data Pods & annotation apps?
11.Open research Pods & apps (GO FAIR & EOSC-compliant)?
12.Health & fitness data Pods & apps (MedMij-compliant)?
13.Financial data Pods & apps (e.g. Financieel paspoort-alike)?
14.Education Pods & apps for students?
Solid Use cases? First ideas
15.Home Pods & apps (e.g. Huiskluis/woondossier alike)
16.Social Media Pods & apps (e.g. Okuna alike)
17.Findability of Heritage collections (NDE + IDLab)
18.Local Pod providers (with e.g. additional services)
19.Development tools to make it easier to develop linked
data & Solid apps with React (Ontola.io)
20.…
Solid Use cases? Recent idea
21.Solid data management environments for small heritage
organizations that they can use to manage their collections
online in a uniform way and where their collection data
(e.g. text and images) is stored as Linked Data in Solid data
pods and can be easily shared with many other data users
and organizations (to create e.g. new citizens science
applications with data from multiple data sources)
22.…
Vision…, interlink data and knowledge from
different communities in a uniform way

Solid Use cases? First conclusions
Many good ideas, but activities are mostly ad-hoc and can have
different priorities over time, which threatens the speed of
development and the desired growth and adoption of Solid in the
Netherlands and worldwide
But what can we reasonably expect when we position the Solid
activities in a historical perspective of previous internet and web
developments? (see next two slides)
Internet growth & adoption patterns
Solid growth forecast (personal view)
• MIT Research project
• Inrupt
• Local communities
(e.g. PLDN + local leads)
• Global Solid

Solid growth & adoption: Next steps
Solid activities: Solid Meetups
Local leads & activities:
• 9 apr 2019: Solid Utrecht (Pieter van Everdingen)
• 28 jun 2019: Solid The Hague (Bart Roorda)
• 10 oct 2019: Solid Amsterdam (Jeroen van Beele)
• 20 dec 2019: Solid Enschede (Erwin Folmer)
• 30 jan 2020: Solid Amsterdam (Jeroen van Beele)
• More in 2020: Solid <Your City>? (any volunteers?)
Solid activities: Curriculum & challenges
We would like to work with teachers & students from:
• Universities
• Academies
• Graduate schools
• Secondary schools
• …
Solid activities: Development activities
We would like to work with other data and developer
communities to get Solid on the agenda of their activities
(guest presentations/workshops, etc.), e.g.:
• Front-end/back-end/full stack developers
• JavaScript/React/Angular/Vue developers
• Solid development activities at Hackathons
• …
Solid activities: More business focus !
We would like to work with business developers to decide
which Solid use cases are most promising for further Solid
activities and also to get more business focus next to the
technical focus we already have
