Electricity
Intended for
Grades 3rd-5th
Marisa Laudano
Technology Integration Rationale
✎ When thinking of Science people
such as Albert Einstein, Isaac
Newton, and Charles Darwin
quickly come to mind.
✎ Although these great pioneers of
science are no longer with us there
is a something important that we,
as teachers, can take from their
process of discovery.
THEY DID! Click the speaker above

slide
Technology Integration Rationale
✎ Once their research was complete
they went out and tested their
theories.
✎ Incorporating technology into the
Science curriculum will allow
students to learn, hands on,
personalizing their experience as
they make their own discoveries.
THIS SAME PRACTICE SHOULD
BE CONTINUED IN OUR
CLASSROOMS TODAY!

Internet Content
From the time we first have
access to the internet we
are taught that we cannot
believe everything that we
read, that anyone can post of
the internet and just
because it is there does not
mean that it is true.
There will be links available
for all of the websites
used during the creation of
this presentation, either by
clicking directly on the link
or in the “Notes” area
below each slide.
The following slide contain websites that can be used in the
classroom to enrich the students’ learning experience.
Internet Resources
1. The Blobz Guide to Electric Circuits
 Interactive lesson, game, and quiz: to be played
alone or in small groups
2. Interactive Sites for Education
 This site give games, activities and experiments
to go along with different science themes.
3. 42 Explore
 This website has differentiated lesson materials
based on the level and grade of your students. It
also provides a multitude of links to other sites
with information on electricity.

Teaching Material - Worksheet
Click Here to Download this Worksheet
✎ This worksheet can be
used as a study guide
before an assessment.
✎ In addition to having a
fill in the blank section,
the bottom park requires
the student to show
understanding for how an
actual electrical circuit
works.
Teaching Material – Handout
Click Here to Download this Experiment Aid
✎ This handout can be used to
take down data during an in
class experiment.
✎ Students will build their own
electrical circuits in partners
and then insert different
materials to find out if they are
conductors or insulators.
✎ Students will fill in this
handout with their findings.
Teaching Material – Game
Click Here to Download the Material for this Game
✎ The following image is
the board for a game that
directly relate to electric
current.
✎ This game could be used
the day before an
assessment to allow the
students to see what they
know and what they still
need to look over.
Teaching Material – Word Search
Click Here to Make your own Word Search
✎ This word search can be
done as a transition activity
before the Science
experiment with insulators
and conductors.
✎ The word search will get
students thinking about the
vocabulary they have learned
in past lessons and ready to
start the next lesson on this
subject.
Subject-Specific Internet-Based
Resources
✎The site contains discussion points for teachers to use,
handouts that can be used during class, as well as
materials that will be needed for experiments and in class
activities.
✎ If this is a subject matter of electricity is new to a teacher
this is a great resource to use in order to get ideas about
lesson plans.
✎The website also gives definitions for different terms that
are used when speaking about electricity that the teacher
can refer to.
Uses of the Internet
✎Woodlands Resources: Science is a website that created
interactive lessons and activities for students to use.
✎There are different links for different subjects but the
one that I focused on where Science related.
✎The site linked here is specifically related to electricity,
offering games, quizzes, activities, and video clips.
✎Science Kids is a website that is strictly science related.
✎The site that I linked is specifically related to electricity.
✎The site offers online games, experiments, projects,
pictures, facts, videos, lessons and quizzes.

It can also be a study guide activity before the assessment. Interactive Sites for Education: This site can be used in conjunction with the Science Unit on electricity. On iPads, in the computer lab, or as an additional resource for students to explore at home. 42 Explore: This site is full of resources for teachers. This site can be used when setting up the unit or to find fillers for time blocks in case lesson finish early.

Aside from giving students educational information in a fun and exciting way it also drives home to ideals the failure is a way of learning and that students are capable of everything. Another reason why I enjoy this episode is because Ms. Frizzle acts as a guide for her students’ learning. She does not tell them what to do, what is or is not correct, and she never stops them from trying something new. She encourages them to explore and discover on their own so that they can make their own conclusions about the information. This is the type of teaching that I think should, and have learned should, be in all classrooms.

In this experiment the students will create their own electrical circuit. Each open space in a capital is matched with an open space next to the name of the capital. In order for the light bulb to light up the students need to connect the circuit correctly. In addition to students doing a hands on activity to practice what they have been learning about conductors, insulators, and circuits I also like that it ties in another part of the curriculum so that both Social Studies and Science are being practiced simultaneously.

I think that this could be a great lead in to a hands on experiment or a wrap up video to compare experimental data to. In addition to the video showing students the results that should be similar to theirs it also shows a small group of students working well together and collaborating in order to come to a conclusion with their experiment.

The following slide was also made with the Kidspiration software and descriptions of the material is on that slide.
  • #11 Image Source: http://bebusinessed.com/wp-content/uploads/The-Future-Of-Electricity1.jpg The following worksheet was made with the Kidspiration software and goes along with the diagram on the previous slide. The diagram at the beginning would be used at the beginning of the electrically lesson to find out what students know about electricity and the type of household items that are effected by it. During the lesson students would fill out this worksheet with the information that they are learning about electrically. After the lesson the students would get into small groups and fill out the diagram again with their new information from their worksheet as well as discussion with the rest of the members of their small group. I believe that the visual helps students relate to the lesson that is being taught. Being able to see the items and relate them to items that they see in their everyday life (instead of just saying heat producing, light producing or sound producing items) it allows the students to make connections and better understand the information. I also believe that adding the small group work allows the students to work together, bounce ideas off of one another and further reflect on the information they have taken away form the lesson as well as what other students have taken away.

Whether it is an account for an entire school, a classroom, or club or sports team. This website allows administrators to post photos, reminders, and important information. There are privacy settings that allow only accepted individuals to access the information. Once a person is accepted they will have first hand access to what the administrator wants to share. It is a great way to get information our to a large group of individuals and keep everyone up to date and in the loop with what is going in in school. Teachers can upload reminders about upcoming assessments or due dates. Teachers can also post pictures of in class activities that were done so that parents can see them and students can have access to them as a reminder when studying or doing homework.

A teacher could easily use this technology to help students understand the topic of electricity. On this site teachers can set up sessions where students can create their own flashcards to study, take practice tests, and share study tools with other users from all over the world. It is a great resource for teachers and also gives students access to the information where ever they have access to technology. The teacher can also monitor the site and see who has accessed it, if they have used the functions, and how they have been scoring with their studying. This allows the teacher to understand where his/her students stand and be able to alter lesson plans accordingly with emphasis on the areas students are having difficulty in.
