Step 1:
Optimize your profile for
stewardship.
by Sheila Scarborough via Flickr Creative Commons
Whether you’ve already got a LinkedIn profile or
you’re setting one up for the first time, follow these
pointers to make sure your page is in tip-top shape:
• Upload a friendly profile picture.
• Edit your professional headline.
• Fill in your Summary to show what
you’re all about.
• Give (and get!) recommendations &
endorsements.
Personalize Your LinkedIn Profile
Pro Tip:
Reach more donors, board members, and
colleagues by joining groups on LinkedIn! It’s a
perfect way to connect with people in your industry
who might be outside of your personal network.
Step 2:
Develop an alumni
LinkedIn group.
by Chris Potter via Flickr Creative Commons
An alumni LinkedIn group can be a valuable networking
resource for you and your alumni community. Here are
some guidelines to follow when setting up your group:
• Create only one group.
• Keep the group closed so that alumni
have to request to join.
• Put in the effort to grow your group!
For example, you could send a mass
invite to your alumni contacts.
Grow Your Alumni Group
Pro Tip:
Use LinkedIn’s Group Analytics tool
to track the activity level of your group. This is a
great way to learn what has been successful, as
well as what aspects of the group can be improved.
Step 3:
Research prospects and
gather donor insights on
LinkedIn.
by Martin Kenny via Flickr Creative Commons
Take your prospect research to the next level by using
LinkedIn Advanced Search – the best friend you never
knew you had:
• Locate “Advanced” to the right of the
search bar at the top of your profile.
• Filter your search by keywords, school,
LinkedIn groups, industry, interests,
location, seniority, you name it.
• Get focused search results that show
exactly the prospects you’re looking for.
