  • #1: Welcome to “Are you Linkedin??? Creating your Digital Professional Profile.” I will be narrating for you today. The goal of this presentation is to get you well on your way to creating a strong online professional profile. Notice that are many links in this presentation. Make sure to use them to view helpful articles and videos. Let’s get started.
  • #2: (Read bullets) To better understand how Linkedin works, access the link for a description of how employers and recruiters use Linkedin to find employees.
  • #3: Here you see an example of a Linkedin profile. There are several elements in a profile. We will discuss some thoughts and tips for creating a strong profile and using the elements most effectively.
  • #4: First of all, a strong profile is essential to your Linkedin campaign and it should express your value to employers. Here are a few things to consider when constructing your profile.
  • #5: Your Linkedin profile is not your resume. It is a marketing tool that may include your resume, but its purpose is to sell yourself to potential employers. This is a tool for attracting recruiters and making them want to learn more about you.
  • #6: Linked in is not just a tool for job seekers. It is a tool for employers and recruiters to find strong, qualified individuals to fill needs in their companies. Your profile should highlight your value and your accomplishments. Make sure to include those you have listed on your resume. Accomplishments related to the industry should definitely be highlighted.
  • #7: Showing your professional side is important, but it is good to show a bit of your personality as well. This is also a chance to show off your writing skills. But remember, you should have at least two other people proof read your profile before posting it. Typos and spelling errors are huge turn-offs.
  • #8: In order for your profile to be complete, it must include…(read bullets) We will disucss these elements and how to use them to make you more attractive to recruiters. You can also access the link for further details of the sections. Next up…tips and suggestions for catching an employer’s eye!
  • #9: First, we have the background image. It is much like the cover photo you would choose for other social media outlets. It might… Define a purpose Relate to your career or industry Show off a personal accomplishment Or show company pride Here’s a tip…use minimal text on the background image. Save that for the other sections of the profile. Use the link for more specific ideas for choosing a background foto. .
  • #10: Head shots or profile pictures… Did you know, (read first bullet) Keep in mind, Linkedin is not a social platform, so your profile picture should be professional. I will share some important do’snd don’t’s when it comes to head shots… Do: Look approachable and friendly in your picture Use an up to date photo Smile And have your face occupy 60% of the space Don’t use a picture that Is A selfie Is Cropped from a group picture Has a distracting background Or includes hobbies. The link will give you more detailed tips and suggestions.
  • #11: So, what is a headline? (next slide)
  • #12: A headline gives a professional description of you. It should cause the reader to want to know more about you. Make sure… The headline is tailored to your audience Includes your skills Does not include jargon And avoids adjectives like expert, best, winning, superior. Publicly complimenting yourself is not attractive. Don’t forget to click the link for more thoughts on writing a headline.
  • #13: Many call the summary the “about section” You have 2000 characters to say who you are and to tell your career story. You may want to research key words and search terms that employers are looking for. You can find them in job descriptions and postings online. The link provides advice on writing a great summary.
  • #14: While we are on the topic of online recruiting and job searches, remember that there are other platforms you can use to your advantage. (read slide) You may want to review all of your social media profiles to make sure your profile pictures are appropriate and that there are no controversial topics discussed. Yes, your profiles are an expression of you, but during a season of job hunting, you may want to rethink what you post. Employers WILL search for you online.
