However, the difference between these two is significant. EMRs are a digital version of the paper charts that clinicians use. It captures data related to medical and treatment history of patients in one practice. It helps in tracking and monitoring patient’s medical data, visits, screening, etc. thereby improving the quality of care. However, the data captured isn’t shared outside of the practice electronically. EHRs focus on the total health of the patient. It has all the functions of EMR and has the additional feature of sharing and collaborating with other systems like the lab, radiology, patient portal, etc. thus helping in the continuum of care. MedAlert™ an EHR How MedAlert™ is delivered? MedAlert™ solutions have all the component of a good EMR and tightly integrates with Pharmacy, Lab, Radiology, Patient Portal, Data Analytics, etc. With the support for HL7 messages, MedAlert™ can interact with other vendor seamlessly which helps in the continuum of care where the data travels along with the patient. MedAlert™ has two delivery models. It is delivered as On Premises Model (we call it Enterprise Model throughout this document) and SaaS Model. On-Premises model: MedAlert™ delivered by deploying the server and the smart clients in local network at the client’s site. Data synchronized in a cloud hosted multi-tenanted database. Cloud hosted data acts as a failsafe option and provides seamless access to the application from outside of the local network. Optionally, data is backed up in the shared cloud space. Client data is stored in a secure HIPAA compliant cloud hosting service. Cloud data synchronization disabled for the clients who have concerns about storing data outside the network, and VPN option suggested. Clients pay a one-time perpetual license fee and yearly annual maintenance charge. SaaS model: MedAlert™ is delivered through smart clients hosted in the cloud. User downloads the smart client from the website or through app stores. List of the enabled feature depends on the subscription type. Each organization would have a limited set of accounts with administration access, and the number of administrative accounts depends on the subscription type. A user with administrative access can create new users and assign roles and permissions. Clients pay a periodical subscription and get access to the application and data during the subscription period. Client data is stored in a secure HIPAA compliant cloud hosting service.
