Evaluation Question 4
How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages.
Movie editing software – Main
production.
For the main production I used Adobe Premier elements as it doesn’t restrict you to a
small editing window tool. By using this software I was able to render the videos
which meant the quality output was higher than mediocre software's such as iMovie.
Premier elements also allowed me to cut and re-paste clips with ease into different
positions precisely which mean I could section a 20 second cut for short clips such as
the promo. By using premier elements I could also edit the colourisation of the video
and turn into a greyscale production which worked well to suit the indie/alternative
genre. Sound editing was also enabled which meant I could cut and/or lower key parts
of an audio and add a voice over such as the labyrinth voice over during the end
scenes of the production. Premier elements also allowed me to change the visual
aspects ratio which meant all the clips were merged together in a cinematic box effect
without it appearing to be footage from separate cameras. Another feature used on
premier elements was the footage selection, which allowed me to created a library in
which I could access the different clips to add or remove from the initial production.
The final feature used was the scene-line and time-line feature which enabled
different viewing and editing capabilities; The scene line was used for delicate and
major cutting and cropping of scenes where as the time line was used to add the
greyscale effect and change the aspect ratio as it didn’t require much knowledge with
the programme to function such editing for the product.
Desktop publishing Software's –
Ancillary Tasks
To create the ancillary tasks the choice of software was adobe Photoshop cs4 as it had
a wide range of capabilities from premade effects to brushes and rendering tools to
manually change and add effects. It also enabled us to create templates such as the
digipack which served as a guideline for the imported photographs. This enabled us to
render photographs singularly as well as simultaneously by adding layers and not
applying it to the initial photography which meant the edits can be removed or re-
applied to choice. One of the main used tools would be the Lassio tool as it enabled us
to remove figures and texts from backgrounds precisely to add to an alternative
background. The second tool used was the effects tool to create a cut-out/artistic
effect to represent the indie genre. Photoshop also has ease of access when
composition is being altered as it allowed us to move, enlarge, minimise and rotate
images as well as texts d logos to create a panel. One of the main features of
Photoshop is layering as it allows you to highlight specific layers and select them to
either take place within the fore/background or have them central to the image.
Manipulating photographs by warping or changing the colourisation meant the
photograph could correlate and reinforce the colour scheme as well as font and texts
which have been embedded.
Filming equipment – Digital and HD
Camera’s
For the main production we used 2 rechargeable Sony digital HD
camera’s. as well as be small in proportion meaning the carrying was
reduced the camera’s also captured footage in high quality to an
extent. Running scenes and slow zooming was a difficulty as the
sensitivity of the camera was very high, however by changing those
variables the filming became an ease. For the chase scenes we used a
Canon Compact camera to capture the running scenes as it produced a
higher quality resolution than the Sony camera’s. It also enabled us to
create multiple montage footages of the actors running, aslo by using
this camera we were able to get better and higher detailed close ups
of the shots required. The camera also enabled us to film in natural
lighting with ease as it didn’t effect the lens or footage to flare in the
sunlight. The camera also enabled us to capture images for the
digipack as well as establishing locations and planning shots which
enabled the group to decide on which shots to use as well as the
composition and sequence to be viewed in.
Web design software/ Weblogger –
filming and journal planner
For my blog I decided to use Wix after transitioning form Eblogger as it had
better capabilities in the use of multi-media which allowed me to add
multiple images and video’s as well as a photo diary. This was an advantage as
the pages can be scrolled and navigated through with buttons to go to links
and watch video’s. The programme also enabled me add paragraphs, and
titles to annotate and explain the work and planning process; it also enabled
me describe images and key ideas and themes which cannot be explained
through multimedia itself. Wix also allowed me to edit the presentation in
which the work is viewed in which meant I could create separate pages and
labels to store and find files and video’s with ease. Another feature which was
used is the Link button which allowed me to create links to specific pages and
websites or presentational software's such as prezi and slideshare which had
other multimedia capabilities. Wix also allowed YouTube video’s to be
embedded into it which meant social networking was available and provided
comments and key feedback towards specific pieces of work. This enabled me
to post all feedback and show edits and stages of work that are crucial to the
final outcome of the production.
Additional Software
Additional software such as videos were key to
the blog as it showed stages of the music video
under production and changes that were altered
between each point. Other additional software
such as Prezi was used in the evaluation to
present key points and show images
simultaneously. Slideshare was also used in the
evaluation to create an alternative to an essay as
well as it being able to skip and find key slides/
information.
