EARS is a nonprofit organization that has provided peer mediation, conflict resolution, and youth development training to schools and organizations in New York City for 30 years. They employ specially trained youth facilitators between ages 12-21 to lead 18-hour mediation training programs for their peers. These youth trainers act as role models and help their peers develop important life skills like active listening, effective communication, and understanding different perspectives. In addition to mediation, EARS also uses restorative practices to address harm, rebuild relationships, and bring resolution to conflicts. Former youth participants often credit EARS with helping them gain confidence, pursue higher education and careers, and empowering them to be leaders in their communities.
