Jim Ayson presented on the mobile apps ecosystem. He discussed how smartphones and mobile apps have surpassed PCs as the dominant computing platform. The app economy is large, with over 25 billion apps downloaded from Apple and over 13 billion from Android. Mobile operators see apps as important for driving mobile internet usage and revenue. Operators are trying to become part of the app ecosystem through app stores, developer programs, and APIs. SMART in the Philippines offers tools for developers and cooperates with IdeaSpace to support technopreneurs.
