IDEA 1
The video takes place in multiple settings that are used
to show different lifestyles and people.
During the verses of the song, the video is played at
normal speeds to show the differences between different
locations.
During the main melody, a time lapse would be used to
travel from place to place so that the changes in
landscape and surrounding are more noticeable.
The video would focus on certain buildings and people in
these places to highlight the differences between people
in different places.

IDEA 2
The video would focus on 2 different people and follow
them through a day.
The first person would be living a dull, mundane lifestyle
and the video would be grey to show their boredom.
The second person would be much happier and their job
and life would seem brighter.
Finally when they arrive home at the end of the day The
moods would switch and the happy person would be
shown to have a gloomy private life whereas the unhappy
person would be more content with their home life.

IDEA 3
The video starts off focused on one person who is
singing music in their bedroom which is darkly lit and
gloomy. Halfway through the song, the camera swoops
around them to teleport them to a bright and happier
location. The singer sings more confidently in this
location to show that they are in a place that they are
comfortable. They then are transported back to the
original location near the end to show that they never
actually left, only in their head.

IDEA 4
Create a clone effect in order to play all instruments of
the song at once. Have each instrument appear being
played when they are used in the song but have them
disappear when they are not played. Switch around their
positions when they appear to make it more interesting.

VIDEO 1-SABOTAGE-BEASTIE
BOYS
• The camera Is often handheld and unsteady/shaky
to suit the style of the song. They also use lots of
camera movements such as zooming in and out for
comedic effect.
• The editing uses lots of overdramatic slow motion
shots to overemphasize the action in the video and
no transitions to keep up with the speed of the
music.
• The art is designed to reflect styles that were
present in the 70’s, especially styles that were
shown in movies at the time. The costumes that are
worn by the band and actors match those of 70’s
detectives whereas those of the ‘criminals’ are
completely random.
• The people in the video perform as if they are in an
old police action show/movie and copy the types of
movements you would see in those shows but
much more dramatically, in a comedic way. They
are constantly moving fast and jumping off, across
and up objects such as walls and rolling around to
mock the style of the content it is parodying.
• This might link to my video as it uses some aspects
of camera movement (like the unstable and quick

GEORGE EZRA
• The camera Is in a fixed position for most
of the video, facing directly at the singer
most of the time. It is most likely mounted
on a tripod as there is no movement or
shake.
• The video uses lots of quick cuts to move
the singer from place to place and has
subtitles along the bottom of the frame to
let people know the lyrics to the song.
• The video uses lots of bright colours to
create a summer aesthetic. The singer is
dressed in light clothing to also give the
idea of summer heat and holidays.
• Most of the video has the singer looking
straight into the camera with a
microphone which gives the idea of a live
performance to the viewer.
• This could link to my idea as it uses fast
and quick cuts at the start which may be
something I want to include in one of my

VIDEO 3 – FOOLS GOLD – THE
STONE ROSES
• The Camera is often stationary and pointed at
one of the band members either walking
through a desert or playing their instrument.
There is no camera shake and it often pans
left or right to follow the walking band
members.
• The video has lots of slow fading transitions
to reflect the speed of the music. Some of the
shots include a transparent frame with
footage of fools gold overlaying the footage
of the band.
• The video is filmed in dark red and purple
lighting. The art design includes both softer
colour tones in the background and much
harsher ones in the foreground.
• The video is performed as if there is a concert
in the desert as much of the video is the band
playing their instruments on a stage in the
desert. There are also shots of the walking
slowly through the desert. The performance
shows that sometimes a simpler approach
can look just as aesthetic as one with more

VIDEO 4 – BOHEMIAN
RHAPSODY
• The camera is in a static position in the video
with long continuous shots of the band. From
different angles and in different locations.
• The video uses two main transitions which
are fades and cuts to move from each shot to
another. The fades are used when the music
is slower and the cuts are often used when
the tempo going at a faster rate.
• The video has a gothic, dark art style in the
slower sections of the song and when the toe
is lowered whereas when the song is moving
faster it uses brighter and shiny costumes
and outfits to make the music seem more
dramatic.
• The video uses performance to display its
themes such as when the music becomes
darker and stranger, the video has the band
in a position (seen on the right) to help
reflect the change in the sound of the song
by changing the visuals.

VIDEO 5 – CAN’T STOP – RED HOT CHIL
PEPPERS
• The camera is mostly static in the video
but has one long dynamic shot where it
passes through a long tube at the start.
• The video uses quick cuts to fit with it’s
speed and often has very short shots that
often reappear later in the video. They
jump between some of the same shots
often and move very quickly.
• The art design appears to be random and
uses bright and often clashing colours to
make it bolder and seem even stranger.
The costumes worn by the band are also
completely random and are completely
wacky and confusing.
• There is no pattern to the performance
and the movements that the band makes
are strange and unusual. There is a lot of
bad dancing and confusing shots that do
not link to the music.
• This may link to my music video as it

VIDEO 6 – FIRE - KASABIAN
• The music video for Fire is shot like a movie. The
camera has many different shot types and camera
angles. One of the different uses of a camera angle
is the use of a security camera. Shot types include
pans, using a dolly to move along with a vehicle
and zoom in on characters.
• The editing uses colour grading to achieve a wild
west “dusty” look. Everything is lit a brown/orange
colour to recreate this. Many jump cuts between
camera angles are used as well and a fade is used
at the end of the video.
• The art design incorporates themes used in
cowboy/western movies such as the outfits which
give a more modern look on the cowboy style. The
town that the video is set in is also given a modern
wild west theme as well the setting of a small
desert town with 20th-21st century buildings.
• The band members in the video rob a bank with
guitars. The performance is played out like a movie
however there are no weapons but the guitars. This
makes the music video interesting as it gives a
musical twist on an eye catching video.
• I could incorporate The use of a storyline into my

VIDEO 7 – TAKE ON ME – A-HA
• The video uses static shots when the characters
are in human form however, when the music
video becomes an animation, there are many
dynamic shots, such as one where the camera
rotates around the characters looking at each
other.
• The animation used 2,000 drawings to bring it
to life. This meant that the editing had to be
done by hand instead of digitally. The actual
video footage only used jump cuts.
• The art design is stop motion and hand drawn.
The style is simplistic but is made more
interesting due to the way that the footage
flows smoothly and captures the actors faces
realistically. The animation style is now more
popular due to the music video.
• The performance is done as a love story with
the main character falling in love with a
character in her comic book. The main video is
used for the least part of the video but it is
used to show the emotion of the characters

POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES
I plan on using multiple different techniques in my music
video. I want to use one continuous shot for my video
that does not move for the length of the music video. I
want to edit the video so that I would have a clone effect
to make it seem as if I am playing all of the instruments
of the song. I also want to edit the video so that it
matches the speed of the music by using jump cuts and
transitions (but only where they fit). I will edit the colour
of the video so that it’s colour gradient will be darker or
brighter to fit the mood of the music. I want the
performance to be somewhat over the top as it makes
the video seem more fun and exciting.

CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
I want to use a narrative that gives the impression that
the music video is a live performance instead of an actual
story told, like in many other music videos. I still want to
have some features of a music video such as fast
transitions, cuts and time lapses and slow motion
footage. I want to use bright lighting to try and make it
seem like this as concerts usually have lighting to
accompany the music. I will need basic music
instruments as props in order to create the effect of
having a band that I need. One location will be used for
the video in order to create the effect of being on a stage
as it does not move.

The Strokes formed as a band in 1998 in Manhattan, New York.
The band includes singer Julian Casablancas, lead guitarist Albert
Hammond Jr., drummer Fabrizio Moretti, Bassist Nikolai Fraiture,
and guitarist Nick Valensi. The band’s first album was ‘Is This It’
which was released 2001 and went on a world tour due to their
rising popularity. The band has often opened at Rolling Stones
concerts and have been regarded as one of the greatest Rock
bands of all time.
Links to other artists
The Strokes have opened at Rolling Stones concerts and have
played along side Jack White (lead singer and guitarist of The White
Stripes) Loretta Lynn and Bob Dylan as well.
Genre info
The Strokes are often regarded as an indie rock and that has it’s
musical roots stem from 1960’s garage rock style music.

FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content,
duration, pace and style of the song]
The song ‘Someday’ by The Strokes is a song about
looking back and thinking about how much better ‘The
good old days’ were (as quoted from the song). The song
explains about how relationships and friendships
eventually ‘fall apart’ and that promises that he has mad
haven’t lasted forever. The other thing that they say is
that life only continues to get harder with age. The word
’someday’ is repeated continually throughout the song to
emphasise the singer’s desire to be taken back when he
was younger. The song is just over three minutes long
and is somewhat fast paced with a downhearted mood.
The style of the song indie rock.

FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your
interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre
conventions, etc]
For my music video I want to create a stage-like setup that’s contains guitars,
drums and a microphone, to be played to replicate the sound of the music. The
instruments will be not actually be played, but mock played in such a way that
matches the tone of the music. Using a clone effect on my video I will appear to
play all of the instruments and sing at the same time. I will wear different
clothes for each instrument I play in order to give the video more colour and
make it slightly more interesting to watch. It will be played out like a live
performance but there will be fast cuts between each version of me playing
instruments. The video will use lighting to make it seem more like a concert or
gig but it will use music video conventions so it doesn’t look entirely like a copy
of a live version of the song. Different versions of the ‘clones’ will disappear
throughout the video and reappear in order to create interesting visuals to keep
the video exciting. The camera will remain static for the entire video pointing
straight at the ’stage’ area but will use different angles for solo shots of
different instruments being played. The ‘clones’ will also switch positions to

PRE-PRODUCTION
ASSESSMENT
Location: the location I have chosen for my music video is in my garage. This
location is incredibly convenient as it is 10 meters from my house making it very
easily accessible.
Props/equipment: The props that I need for my music video is a drumkit, guitar,
and a microphone. I already have easy access to a drumkit and guitar, but I will
have to purchase a microphone. The microphone does not need to work as it is
only a prop so a model/replica of a microphone is only needed, making it much
cheaper. I need to gather lighting equipment for the video which may not be
cheap. This may be the most expensive element of my video and could cost me a
lot of money depending on how I decide to light the video. I will use my camera or
phone and a tripod to film the video meaning I do not need to purchase any
equipment for the video in order to keep costs to a minimum.
Art/Design: I will need a large greenscreen for my background which will I will
have to pay for. I will be using clothes that I already own for the video meaning
that no money is needed to be spent on costume design.
Actors/crew: I will be performing in this music video by myself therefore I will not
require any other people to appear in the video. I will not require any other people
to help me film the video.
Safety: There are no issues of safety as I will not be filming anywhere that involves
any element of risk.
Total cost: My estimate for the cost for this music video is at £45. This is a very
small budget for a music video but if I spend it wisely, it could be very effective in
making the video look as if it was filmed with a greater budget.

TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
The intended outcome for my music video is a video in
which the effect of a live performance is given off by
using a set that looks like a stage. In the video I will use
a ‘clone effect’ to make it seem as if I am playing along
to the music with all of the instruments that are used in
the song. The music video will make quick cuts between
different instruments with me playing them with multiple
camera angles. The video will be synchronized with the
beat of the music and all of the transitions will be in time
with the different instruments with respect to when they
are being played in the song.
To create this I require: A drumkit, a guitar (acoustic or
electrical), A microphone, a camera and a tripod. The
equipment highlighted in green is already accessible for
free whereas the other items are needed to be purchased
for the music video.

TRACK BREAKDOWN
The track that I have chosen for my music video is
‘Someday’ by the strokes. I have chosen it due to the fact
that it has a minimal amount of instruments, repetitive
lyrics (making it easy to learn them) and is also fairly
short (3 minutes and 7 seconds). The tempo of the song
is fairly fast and has a somewhat downhearted mood.
The structure of the song is unusual as it has many
verses and short choruses. Most of the verses consist of
3-4 lines that only have 1-5 words.
The song is about looking back and missing ‘the good
old days’. In the song the singer (Julian Casablancas)
talks about how he realizes he is growing older and no
longer has the carelessness that he once had. He also
sings about knowing that he should have worked harder
when he was younger in order to work less the rest of his
life. Towards the end of the song the mood shifts and
tone of the song becomes more hopeful as he realizes he
should never waste another day of his life by finishing

LOCATIONS
You need to identify locations and plan a recce.
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost,
weather? How will you manage this?
Location: my garage
Access: whenever I am at home as long as I have the key to the
door.
Weather: Weather does not matter as all filming will be taking place
indoors.
Limitations: Due to the fact that the garage is an indoor space,
there are boundaries to the amount of space that I have to film in.
There is also lots of ‘stuff’ (bikes, BBQ, tools, etc.) stored inside of
the garage that may need to be cleared out in order to create more
room for filming, However there are limits to how much space I can
make as I can not leave everything outside whilst filming as it could
get damaged or stolen.
Risks: there are no severe risks in the garage. The only risks are
possible injury when rearranging stored objects which can be
avoided by getting assistance from someone when moving heavier
obects.

EQUIPMENT
Equipment:
•Camera, (easily accessible as there is one at my home) to
be used to film the music video.
•Tripod, (easily accessible as there is one at my home) to
be used to hold the camera still and eliminate any
camera shake from someone holding the camera.

FACILITIES
My video will be edited at College using a computer that
has Adobe Premiere Pro, I also have a desktop PC at
home that can be used for video editing if I need more
time to work on the music video or need to download
other video editing software in order to create an effect
for the video.
There is no specialist equipment that needs to be
used/booked for the video as all of the software that I
need for my video is able to be used on computers that I
already have access to.

PERSONNEL
Crew and Cast: I am the only member of the crew and
cast and will not need any assistance with the filming or
performance of the music video. Should I need it, I do
have people who can help me with certain aspects of
filming the video or creating the set.
This is useful as it means that I will not have to pay
anyone to help me produce the video and also means
that I can create it to the standards that I desire for the
video.

RIP-O-MATIC
I have made a video that’s edited
in the way that I want mine to look.
I have sourced videos off of
YouTube and added the track that I
will be using for my music video. I
have made the cuts between
instruments like I want to have in
my final video and have timed the
footage to the beat of the track
and and have synced the singing to
the track. The videos do not reflect
the mood or the lighting that I
want to have in my video but has
allowed me to display the way that
I want the editing to come
together. The footage is not of the
greatest quality but were some of
the only videos that I was able to
find to be able to use for the
music. The second shot of the
guitar is not timed to the music
perfectly, however it was one of
two snippets of the original video
that were not completely obscured

Issues: Objects that are stored in the garage will need to be

RISK ASSESSMENT
Risks: There are many sharp tools including power tools
that are stored in the garage which if mishandled when
being moved out of the garage could cause serious
injury. There are also many chemicals inside of the
garage that need to be handled with care as if spiled
could cause extreme harm. There are many large objects
that may be too heavy to move on my own, therefore I
should ask for assistance when moving them in and out
of the garage to avoid an accident.
Precautions: Take great care when moving any sharp or
dangerous objects in and out of the garage. Safely
transport chemicals from the garage in a way where they
can not spill anywhere or on anything. Get assistance
moving objects that may cause strain or injury or, move
them in an appropriate way that can not cause any harm.

CONTINGENCY PLAN
(LOCATION)
The second location I have chosen for my contingency
planning is at a family friends garage within 200m of my
original filming location. All equipment can be
transported without the need of a vehicle in about 20
minutes. As I am the only person working on this project,
there should be no issues with moving location as I will
only have to arrange with the owner of the location, who
has assured me that their property will be accessible on
weekends, when I will usually be free. The floor plan
would not have to change as the location has almost
identical dimensions to my original location.

CONTINGENCY PLAN
(EQUIPMENT)
Camera: If the camera for any reason does not
work, I can use my phone to film the video.
Lighting: If the lighting breaks, I will have to
resort using a small lamp for filming which may
not look as good but will provide adequate
lighting.
Greenscreen: The greenscreen is irreplaceable f
it becomes damaged as I will not be able to get
another one in time, however the video can still
be completed without it as it is only to be used
in certain shots.

CONTINGENCY PLANNING
(OTHER SCENARIOS)
What if the power goes out? I will have access
to a small generator that will be able to power
the lighting.
What if there is flooding in the garage? I have
access to the backup location in case of that
situation.
What if the footage is deleted or becomes
inaccessible? I will create extra backups in case
of this event.
What if the props get lost or break. Some of the
props sucha s the guitar or microphone can be
replaced easily as I have access to others

that I live at. I have had
permission from my parents
(land owners) to film at my
property and sign this
