Nacte(national acredition council for teacher`s education
• NACTE will look after the matter regarding the accreditation of institutions and their
departments, faculties and disciplines by giving them appropriate ratings.
• defines the organization’s objectives, functions and duties to be performed.
• It will periodically evaluate, scrutinize and monitor the standards followed in different
Universities, Degree Awarding Institutions and their affiliated colleges offering education degree
programs.
MEMBERS
• ALL THE EXISTING TEACHER EDUCATION DEGREE PROGRAMMES SHALL BE WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF
THE COUNCIL. ANY NEW PROGRAMME IN TEACHER EDUCATION SHALL ALSO BE REFERRED TO THE
COUNCIL FOR THE GRANT OF ACCREDITATION.
• THE ACCREDITATION WILL BE FOR SPECIFIC DEGREE PROGRAMMES AND NOT INSTITUTIONS.
• ACCREDITATION SHALL BE MANDATORY FOR ALL RELEVANT ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES OFFERED BY PUBLIC
AND PRIVATE SECTOR INSTITUTIONS.
•
oTHE COUNCIL SHALL ASSIST AND ADVISE TEACHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN PLANNING
THEIR ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS.
oTHE COUNCIL SHALL SUPPORT THE INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS
(STUDENTS) INTERESTED IN PURSUING THE TEACHING PROFESSION AND PROVIDE
PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE TO THE CONCERNED ORGANIZATIONS.
oTHE COUNCIL SHALL CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS USING SET CRITERION FOR
GRANTING ACCREDITATION OF DEGREE PROGRAMS IN TEACHER EDUCATION SUBJECTS: –
FUNCTIONS
• TO STUDY AND DEVELOP POLICIES AND PROCESSES FOR ACCREDITATION
OF TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS
• TOO LAY DOWN CRITERIA ON WHICH TEACHER EDUCATION DEGREE
PROGRAMS SHALL BE ASSESSED AND EQUATED.
• TO INSPECT TEACHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE PROVISION OF RELEVANT UNIVERSITIES’ REGULATIONS.
• TO APPROVE A LIST OF AUDITORS FOR DIFFERENT FIELDS TO
PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESS OF ACCREDITATION OF TEACHER
EDUCATION PROGRAMS.
• TO CONSTITUTE AN ACCREDITATION INSPECTION COMMITTEE (AIC) TO
EVALUATE AND AUDIT PROCESS FROM THE LIST OF AUDITORS.
•TO PUBLISH A LIST OF RANKING OF TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS.
•TO PROMOTE INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT AND UNDERSTANDING OF
SUBJECT AREAS THAT IMPACT ACCREDITATION RELATED ACTIVITIES IN
THE TEACHING PROFESSION.
•TO COLLECT, COLLATE, INDEX, PUBLISH, AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION
AND RESEARCH FINDINGS ON TEACHING PROFESSION
•TO PREPARE GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES TO TRAIN PROGRAMMED

•TO PREPARE ANNUAL REPORT ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE COUNCIL AND
SUBMIT IT TO THE CHAIRPERSON HEC.

PREQUISITES OF LEVEL ‘W’
3.2.5 THE LIBRARY COMPRISES OF VARIOUS TYPES OF INFORMATION
SOURCES (I.E. PRINT, NON-PRINT, ELECTRONIC AND DIGITAL MATERIALS).
4.1.1 THERE IS A FORMAL APPOINTMENT/PLACEMENT POLICY FOR
TEACHER EDUCATOR.
4.4.2 WORKLOAD OF TEACHER EDUCATORS ALLOCATES TIME FOR
PLANNING OF INSTRUCTION, SUPERVISION, PRACTICE TEACHING,
RESEARCH AND PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY OUTREACH.
4.3.1 THE PROGRAM HAS A DOCUMENTED TEACHER EDUCATORS’
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS BASED ON JUSTIFIED
PRIORITIES.

TIME LINE OF ACCREDITATION

HOW TO GET ACCREDITED
• NACTE WILL NOTIFY ACCREDITATION SCHEDULE IN ACCORDANCE TO ITS CALENDAR.
• THE CONCERNED INSTITUTION WILL DEPOSIT THE ACCREDITATION FEE. .
• THE CONCERNED INSTITUTION IS REQUIRED TO FILE A FORMAL REQUEST TO THE NACTE FOR ACCREDITATION OF THE TEACHER
EDUCATION PROGRAM BEING CONDUCTED BY IT.
• THE NACTE IN RESPONSE WILL ISSUE AN ACCREDITATION CODE TO THE INSTITUTION FOR THE PROGRAM APPLIED FOR. THIS CODE WILL
SERVE AS A REFERENCE FOR ALL FUTURE CORRESPONDENCE AND COURSES OF ACTIONS.
• THE INSTITUTION WILL COMPLETE THE PRE-REQUISITES OF ACCREDITATION WHICH INCLUDES THE INSTITUTIONAL SELF EVALUATION
REPORT, PROGRAM PERFORMANCE PROFILE (PPP) AND COMPLIANCE TO THE OBSERVATIONS, IF ANY MADE BY THE NACTE.
• AFTER THE PREREQUISITES ARE MET, THE NACTE WILL NOTIFY THE ACCREDITATION VISIT DATES.
• A TEAM OF NACTE APPOINTED ACADEMIC AUDITORS WILL VISIT THE INSTITUTION ON THE NOTIFIED DATES TO ASSESS AND EVALUATE
THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR ACCREDITATION PURPOSE.
• THE DURATION OF THE VISIT WILL DEPEND UPON THE NATURE OF THE PROGRAM AND LEVEL OF ACCREDITATION.

PROCESS OF ACCREDITATION
• ANY INSTITUTION PLANNING TO OFFER A TEACHER
EDUCATION COURSE/PROGRAMME MAY APPLY TO
THE CHAIRPERSON, NACTE.
• (3) THE APPLICATION MUST CONTAIN/ATTACH
FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
• (A) TITLE OF THE COURSE
• (B) DURATION OF THE COURSE
• (C) LEVEL OF THE TRAINING
• (D) MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATION ETC.
• (E) THE SCHEME OF STUDIES I.E. COURSE
OUTLINES WITH SUGGESTED READINGS AND CREDIT
HOURS FOR EACH COURSE.
• (F) STAFF WITH THEIR QUALIFICATIONS
(ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL)
• (G) BOOKS AND JOURNALS AVAILABLE
IN THE LIBRARY
• (H) OTHER FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN
THE INSTITUTION I.E. LABORATORIES,
PLAYGROUNDS, EQUIPMENT, ETC.
• (I) BUILDINGS AND INFRASTRUCTURE.
• (J) OTHER PROGRAMS BEING RUN.
(4) Accreditation Inspection Committee may assess each case and make its
recommendations to the Council for further consideration and approval.
(5) Principal/Chairman/Head of an institution can lodge a written appeal to
the Controlling Authority if there is a rejection to the grant of accreditation to a
programmed.
(6) The Controlling Authority will form an Appeal Committee comprising the
following:-
(b) The Chairman Council
(c) Dean, Faculty of Education of a university (other than the appellant’s
university) to be nominated by the Chairperson, HEC.
(d) One member of the Council to be nominated by the Chairperson, HEC from
the list of the Council members)
(e) A senior teacher educator/head of an accredited teacher education institution
to be nominated by the Chairperson, HEC.
(7) The Committee will review the appeal and send its recommendations/comments
to the Controlling Authority for decision.

  • 17. PREQUISITES OF LEVEL ‘W’ 3.2.5 THE LIBRARY COMPRISES OF VARIOUS TYPES OF INFORMATION SOURCES (I.E. PRINT, NON-PRINT, ELECTRONIC AND DIGITAL MATERIALS). 4.1.1 THERE IS A FORMAL APPOINTMENT/PLACEMENT POLICY FOR TEACHER EDUCATOR. 4.4.2 WORKLOAD OF TEACHER EDUCATORS ALLOCATES TIME FOR PLANNING OF INSTRUCTION, SUPERVISION, PRACTICE TEACHING, RESEARCH AND PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY OUTREACH. 4.3.1 THE PROGRAM HAS A DOCUMENTED TEACHER EDUCATORS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS BASED ON JUSTIFIED PRIORITIES.
  • 20. TIME LINE OF ACCREDITATION

HOW TO GET ACCREDITED • NACTE WILL NOTIFY ACCREDITATION SCHEDULE IN ACCORDANCE TO ITS CALENDAR. • THE CONCERNED INSTITUTION WILL DEPOSIT THE ACCREDITATION FEE. . • THE CONCERNED INSTITUTION IS REQUIRED TO FILE A FORMAL REQUEST TO THE NACTE FOR ACCREDITATION OF THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM BEING CONDUCTED BY IT. • THE NACTE IN RESPONSE WILL ISSUE AN ACCREDITATION CODE TO THE INSTITUTION FOR THE PROGRAM APPLIED FOR. THIS CODE WILL SERVE AS A REFERENCE FOR ALL FUTURE CORRESPONDENCE AND COURSES OF ACTIONS. • THE INSTITUTION WILL COMPLETE THE PRE-REQUISITES OF ACCREDITATION WHICH INCLUDES THE INSTITUTIONAL SELF EVALUATION REPORT, PROGRAM PERFORMANCE PROFILE (PPP) AND COMPLIANCE TO THE OBSERVATIONS, IF ANY MADE BY THE NACTE. • AFTER THE PREREQUISITES ARE MET, THE NACTE WILL NOTIFY THE ACCREDITATION VISIT DATES. • A TEAM OF NACTE APPOINTED ACADEMIC AUDITORS WILL VISIT THE INSTITUTION ON THE NOTIFIED DATES TO ASSESS AND EVALUATE THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR ACCREDITATION PURPOSE. • THE DURATION OF THE VISIT WILL DEPEND UPON THE NATURE OF THE PROGRAM AND LEVEL OF ACCREDITATION. •

PROCESS OF ACCREDITATION • ANY INSTITUTION PLANNING TO OFFER A TEACHER EDUCATION COURSE/PROGRAMME MAY APPLY TO THE CHAIRPERSON, NACTE. • (3) THE APPLICATION MUST CONTAIN/ATTACH FOLLOWING INFORMATION: • (A) TITLE OF THE COURSE • (B) DURATION OF THE COURSE • (C) LEVEL OF THE TRAINING • (D) MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATION ETC. • (E) THE SCHEME OF STUDIES I.E. COURSE OUTLINES WITH SUGGESTED READINGS AND CREDIT HOURS FOR EACH COURSE. • (F) STAFF WITH THEIR QUALIFICATIONS (ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL) • (G) BOOKS AND JOURNALS AVAILABLE IN THE LIBRARY • (H) OTHER FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN THE INSTITUTION I.E. LABORATORIES, PLAYGROUNDS, EQUIPMENT, ETC. • (I) BUILDINGS AND INFRASTRUCTURE. • (J) OTHER PROGRAMS BEING RUN.
  • 24. (4) Accreditation Inspection Committee may assess each case and make its recommendations to the Council for further consideration and approval. (5) Principal/Chairman/Head of an institution can lodge a written appeal to the Controlling Authority if there is a rejection to the grant of accreditation to a programmed. (6) The Controlling Authority will form an Appeal Committee comprising the following:- (b) The Chairman Council (c) Dean, Faculty of Education of a university (other than the appellant’s university) to be nominated by the Chairperson, HEC. (d) One member of the Council to be nominated by the Chairperson, HEC from the list of the Council members) (e) A senior teacher educator/head of an accredited teacher education institution to be nominated by the Chairperson, HEC. (7) The Committee will review the appeal and send its recommendations/comments to the Controlling Authority for decision.
