This document provides an overview and analysis of the process used to develop the National Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care. A committee reviewed existing codes of ethics, created a draft code, and solicited feedback through focus groups and a nationwide survey. Key steps included identifying shared principles across other codes, incorporating feedback, and focusing the final code on agreed upon principles without commentary. The code aims to provide guidance to interpreters when making judgments about ethical choices by establishing shared expectations for the profession.
