Connectors are words that join ideas and sentences to express relationships between ideas. They improve writing by allowing for more sophisticated sentences. As language skills develop, connectors can be used to connect clauses and make writing more complex. Some common connectors include and, but, or, when, also, not, either, too, yet. Coordinating connectors join clauses of equal importance while subordinating connectors introduce dependent clauses. Examples are given to illustrate the use of different connectors.
