What is OER?
Open Educational Resources (OER’s)
-Are free, Open and Licenced Educational materials that
can be used for teaching, learning, research and other
purposes.

The framework, of OER will be freely available under a
Creative Commons Attribution licenses, encourages educators
to capitalize on the unique rights associated with open content
also known as the 5Rs: the ability Retain, Reuse, Revise,
Remix and Redistribute content for educational purposes

Creative Commons is an American non-profit organization and
international network devoted to educational access and
expanding the range of creative works available for others to
build upon legally and to share.
Types of OER
Types of open educational resources include full courses, course
materials, modules, learning objects, open textbooks, openly
licensed videos, tests, software, and other tools, materials, or
techniques used to support access to knowledge.

1. Project OSCAR:
 Open Source Courseware Animations Repository provides
a repository of web-based interactive animations and
simulations, that we refer to as learning objects (LOs).
 These learning objects span topics in science and engineering
at the college level, and maths and science at the school level.
Students and teachers can view, run and download these
learning objects

2. e-Pathashala
The Union HRD Ministry has launched 'e-pathshala' web
portal to host educational resources for students, teachers,
parents, researchers and educators.
It is a single point repository of e- resources containing
NCERT text-books and various other learning resources.

3. e PG Pathashala
e-PG Pathshala is an initiative of the MHRD under its National
Mission on Education through ICT being executed by the UGC.
The content consist high quality, curriculum-based, interactive e-
content in 70 subjects across all disciplines.

The conents have been developed by the subject experts working
in Indian universities and other R & D institutes across the
country.

4. .
The SWAYAM PRABHA is a group of 22 DTH channels devoted
to telecasting of high-quality educational programmes on 24X7
basis using the GSAT-15 satellite.
Every day, there will be new content for at least (4) hours which
would be repeated 5 more times in a day, allowing the students to
choose the time of their convenience.
The channels are uplinked from BISAG-N, Gandhinagar. The
contents are provided by NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC, IGNOU. The
INFLIBNET Centre maintains the web portal.

5. DIKSHA
Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing.
It is a national platform for school education, an initiative of
National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT),
Ministry of Education.

6. Shodh Ganga
A reservoir of Indian Theses.
The Shodhganga@INFLIBNET Centre provides a platform for
research students to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it
available to the entire scholarly community in open access.
The repository has the ability to capture, index, store,
disseminate and preserve ETDs submitted by the researchers.

7. Shodh Gangotri
The word “Shodh” originates from Sanskrit and stands for
“research and discovery”.
“Gangotri” is one of the largest glacier in the Himalayas and
source of origination of Ganges, the holiest, longest and largest of
rivers in India.
The Ganges is the symbol of age-long culture, civilization, ever-
aging, ever-flowing, ever-loving and loved by its people.

SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Gov’t of India and
designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education
Policy viz., access, equity and quality.
The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching
learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged.

8 National Digital Library
The National Digital library of India is a project under
Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The objective is to collect and collate metadata and provide
full text index from several national and international digital
libraries, as well as other relevant sources.
Launched on 10th November 2006.

8. Slide Share
 SlideShare is an American hosting service, now owned by
Scribd, for professional content including presentations,
infographics, documents, and videos.
 Users can upload files privately or publicly in PowerPoint,
Word, PDF, or OpenDocument format.

9. Khan Academy
 Khan Academy is an American non-profit educational
organization created in 2008 by Sal Khan. Its goal is creating a
set of online tools that help educate students.
 The organization produces short lessons in the form of videos.
Its website also includes supplementary practice exercises and
materials for educators.

10. DOAJ
The DOAJ was launched in 2003 with 300 open access
journals.
Today, this independent database contains over 16500 peer-
reviewed open access journals covering all areas of science,
technology, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities.

Conclusion
Open Education Resource (OER) can overcome barriers
to students' access to course materials while also reducing
the cost of higher education and providing opportunities
for faculty to customize materials to their curriculum and
to students' needs, potentially increasing student success.
