PABLO PICASSO 1881 - 1973
1 By H.F. Mandirola

it takes a long time to become young.
MODERN ART MASTER
 Picasso was born in Malaga in
the south of Spain on the
  Mediterranean coast and died in
1973 in Cannes in the French
  Mediterranean coast.
 Art is everthing.
 To make the bull head sculpture on the left he use
two parts of bicycle the seat and the handlebars.
 Somebody ask Picasso ¨what is art?¨ And he answer
      ¨What is not?¨.
 He was the pioneer of Modern Art.

 Pablo Picasso was one of the most famous Spanish
  painters.
 During Francisco Franco’s dictatorship he was 2

persecuted and he had emigrated to France.
BLUE PERIOD (1901-1904)
 The death of his best friend
    Carlos Casagemas painting
    testifies of Picasso's shock and
horror over the suicide of his
    friend.
 In the sense of Picasso dealing
    with his trauma this painting
belongs to the blue period, but
    it doesn't have the atmosphere
    of resignation and silent
    mourning that his blue
    paintings would have.

 La vie
                                                 3
ROSE PERIOD (1904-1907)
 The Rose Period started in
    1904.
 Picasso was happy in his
    relationship with Fernande
Olivier whom he had met in
    1904.
 Pablo Picasso began to develop
    a highly romantic style of
    painting in 1899, which ended
in 1901, after his close friend
    Carlos Casagemas had
    committed suicide.
 During his Rose Period,
Picasso would become The Actor 4
    commercially successful.
BLACK PERIOD
 Refers to the
    years 1906 and
    1907, in which
    Picasso falls
    under the
    influence of
    African art.
 Picasso
    acknowledged
    that a visit to
    the Trocadero
    museum
    changed him,
    but he didn't say
    why, he never
    gave African art
    the credit it
    deserves. Les Demoiselles d'Avignon 5
CUBISM PERIOD
 In France, Pablo
  Picasso and George
  Braque invented
  Cubism.
 Cubism was a new
  movement of painting;
  this way of painting
  use geometric shapes
  like cylinders,
  triangles, lines, and
  cubes.

                                                         6
THE GUERNICA
 One of his most famous paintings is the
Guernica. The Guernica symbolizes the Nazi air
force bombardment and devastation of the city
called Guernica, this fact happened before the
Second World War. The Nazi Army used the
Spanish civil war to test their weapons .
Obviously the Nazis fought against republican
  jointly with Franco.
 Picasso lived most of his life in Paris even during
German occupation; there he got married to with
Francois Gilot who was 40 years younger than
him, He had two children with her : Claude and
  Paloma. 7
On April 27th, 1937 at 4:30 PM German Condor bombers devastated the
town and killed 1600 men women and children.
Once, Nazi officers came into Picasso´s apartment in Paris and
saw a photograph of Guernica. The officer remarked with
ridicule, “This painting, you did this.”
                                                                      8
“No,” replied Picasso. “You did this.”
PICASSO´S POLITICAL MILITANCY
 In 1944, Picasso became
    a member of the French
    Communist Party, whose
    figurehead he remained
until the end of his life.
 Yet his political thinking
    was entirely molded by
    his desire for peace and
    freedom.

 During those years, he painted, drew, and
lithographed his famous image of the white dove,
which turned into a global symbol of freedom and a 9

    human society.
WOMEN AND PICASSO
 Picasso had a lot of women.
    He got married to with
    Francois Gilot who was 40
    years younger than him,

suffered a lot by because of
    that reason, but he
    married another woman
