[TEST DONE AFTER OVERNIGHT FAST]
a) Avoid interfering drugs 14 days prior to testing (see list below)
b) Avoid Interfering food substances for 24 hr including caffeine (see list below)
c) Avoid smoking and alcohol for 24 hrs prior to testing
d) Patient lies supine
e) Place IV line prior to testing
f) Draw blood after patient lies 30 min supine from the IV line
e) Collect in pre-chilled EDTA tube
f) Immediately separate plasma using centrifugation
g) Freeze plasma at -20 degree and then ship.
Drugs to avoid for 14 days
a) H2 blockers
b) Anti-Histaminics
c) Anti-Depressents
g) Anxiolytics
h) MAO inhinitors
i) Labetolol (avoid for 6 weeks)
Foods to avoid for 24 hrs prior to testing
a) Banana
b) Pineapple
c) Cheese
d) Spicy food
