Vincent Perrin Global UC Solution Architect on IBM technology Former IBM Collaboration Architect for Southwest Europe for 5 years Social Enthusiast @vperrin http://social-collaboration.blogspot.com Who am I?
IBM Sametime 8.5.2 IBM + Polycom : the value proposition Use cases and architecture And of course, demos… Agenda
UC2 for Social Business The “action” in Social Business
Focus on mobility A superior user experience Making rich-media communications accessible and easy to deploy Major themes of Sametime 8.5.2
Native IM clients for iOS and Android Browser-based meetings for iOS and Android tablets Native meetings client for BlackBerry Focus on mobility
Improvements to meetings clients New Sametime Advanced features Offline messaging Multi-file and folder transfer N-way file transfer Organizational tree view A superior user experience
NAT traversal Improved TCSPI adapter support Bandwidth management SUT Lite SUT virtualization Making rich-media communications accessible and easy to deploy
Polycom and IBM Strategic Partnership IBM and Polycom have teamed to deliver UC Everywhere by enabling IBM’s Social Business applications to Connect people from any device regardless of location This solution integrates the power of IBM with Polycom's award-winning UC collaboration solutions that help people and companies do more with less and achieve better business results.
IBM Sametime Meets Polycom Video Maintains business continuity Enables collaborative environments Communications becomes part of the business processes Reduces human latency and encourages collaborative culture Bottom Line: Achieve Results Faster Get SOCIAL and work from ANYWHERE , using ANY DEVICE C ollaboration now part of business processes Businesses can implement unified collaboration solutions that spans across mobile and web client, desktop, conference room, through board rooms
Increase employee productivity Allow geographically dispersed teams to collaborate more effectively regardless of device Reduce travel costs Enhanced collaboration – Visual communication adds breadth to IM and Web collaboration Simple interface – Users can select Polycom HD endpoints from familiar Sametime interface as a preferred device to initiate or receive video calls— supporting high utilization rates with minimal training ROI and improved productivity – Immediately enhance team collaboration and effectiveness for faster decision making and lower costs Leveraged investment – Add Polycom and video to existing IBM environments Customer Benefits
Advantages of Polycom-integration Server side integration; does not touch client ST client (Windows, Linux, Mac), Sametime Plug-in for email clients and social application can be leveraged as is. Web AV client (ST 8.5.2) is also supported Simpler to administer and maintain Familiar interface is preserved. Little training required Sametime client to DMA VMR and endpoints possible with new SUT Lite option for ST 8.5.2 DMA SIP trunking to Sametime Server enables direct calls between Sametime client and telepresence systems, giving users new dialing options When integrated with Lotus Notes calendaring solution, each user or site can dial into Meeting Room from computer or from video conference systems Tight integration with Sametime Sametime bandwidth management (ST 8.5.2) supported
Flexibly Reach People at Any Place Sametime user can launch a multipoint voice or video call to other Sametime users, and the call is automatically hosted by RMX. The initiator or receiver of the call may select the “preferred device” for the call, including standards-based video systems With SUT Lite, Sametime user can call audio or video endpoints directly. Sametime Server and DMA7000 are SIP trunked, and direct call between Sametime and telepresence systems can be made by using SIP number User-based Dialing Device-based Dialing (with SUT Lite) Call Initiator
Person based use cases “ User Oriented” Collaboration Collaborate with users, instead of devices (no dial-in #'s, passcodes, etc.) Works seamlessly with online meetings, within chats, etc. Use Cases: I want to launch a call from my buddy list I want to add audio/video to a chat I want to add audio/video to a web collaboration session I want to add audio/video to another presence-aware IBM application. Requires: Sametime Standard with TCSPI integration to RMX (Sametime 8.5.1+)
Sametime with Polycom RMX Conferencing
Device based use cases “ Device Oriented” Collaboration Direct dial any device Can be another endpoint, or a bridge requesting a passcode Use Cases: I want to call from a Sametime client to a tel # I want to call from a Sametime client to a VMR I want to call from a Sametime client to a SIP URI or E.164, Requires: Sametime SUT Lite SIP trunk to DMA with integration to RMX or trunk to other PBX.
Calendar integration with Lotus Notes* Single Click Solution for Scheduled Calls Administrator can leverage corporate AD/LDAP and DMA to enable each Lotus Notes (or iNotes) user to schedule Polycom-hosted multipoint voice/video calls by simply clicking on the check box, using standard Domino functionality Each user gains instantly an easy way to calendar a video call through Lotus Notes *IBM Service is required
Calendar Integration with Lotus Notes Simple way to enable voice and video calls for scheduled meetings Conference organizer Conference Participants Desktop Participants Click on the Meeting Room ID and launch a call (SUT Lite feature) Conference System Participants Dial VMR number to join the meeti ng Conference Organizer When scheduling a new meeting, check the box that includes conference call information. The video and audio dial-in information is included as part of invitation

Editor's Notes

  • #5: Social Business is the future as introduced by IBM. But, when you find the expert, looked at his files and presentations and now you need clarification. Do you send him an email? Of course, no Hierarchy of Social Business Communication Channels Chat is better than email Voice is better than chat Video is better than voice alone ■ Relationships are formed at the voice and video levels
  • #11: Forward Leaning Leaders are driving organizational transformation by enabling collaboration solutions into applications and business processes for mission critical benefits such as those listed here. The reason for IBM and Polycom working on this issue is simple. We intend to create a solution that is easily and seamlessly integrated into everyday workflows, including unified communication solutions. This will allow users to call from any device, anywhere, to any location Tip: as opposed to reading the list, pick on in advance that you believe your audience will relate to and use this slide as an opportunity to engage them in a brief interaction to confirm their areas of interest.
  • #12: Why Would I Want to Link Sametime to a MCU? Continuous Presence is important ■ Keeps everyone engaged and focused ■ Have Sametime Connect clients and room based system togetherBoth video only calls as well as Sametime Meetings ■ Allows outside parties (customers, suppliers, etc.) to connect to the MCU via a browser client and be in a meeting with room based endpoints as well as Sametime Connect clients
  • #24: Thank You
