- 10. 04:: SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH “The COMPERJ and its impact on urban land informality: the case of the cities of Niterói, São Gonçalo, Itaboraí and Maricá.” TITLE The research aims to assess the territorial reconfiguration of the eastern state of Rio de Janeiro, resulting from the Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro - COMPERJ, under implementation in Itaboraí, emphasizing the issue of informal housing and how this is handled by local governments. Therefore, it is possible to continue and deepen the reflection on the housing conditions of the less privileged urban citizen who still has the informal occupation of regions relegated by the real state capital as their choice of housing. In the center of the analysis are the housing conditions in informal settlements slums and their treatment policies. The project considers COMPERJ as a profound spatial transformations agent, causing various levels of disruption and impacts in the eastern state of Rio de Janeiro. This choice was made because of the fact that these municipalities in the Eastern Metropolitan region are the bulk of urbanization and, therefore, they have the problems inherent to it. Such research is justified to diagnose the process of urban reconfiguration in order to provide grants for development projects and public policies .
