Germany Set to Miss 2020 Climate
Goals
By William Wilkes, Hayley Warren and Brian Parkin
August 15, 2018
Germany, the nation that did more than any other to unleash
the modern renewable-energy industry, is likely to fall short of
its goals for reducing harmful carbon-dioxide emissions even
after spending over 500 billion euros ($580 billion) by 2025 to
overhaul its energy system.

Arizona Public Service: Yuma Marine Corps Air Station-25
MW Microgrid – Phase 1
Scope
PowerSecure provided a turnkey installation of the Microgrid,
24/7 monitoring, and all preventative maintenance for the
system. This Microgrid also supplies APS with autonomous
frequency control and peak load management. Phase 2 of the
project is planned to continue in the near future and will include
integration of PV solar and energy storage.
Location
Yuma Air Station is located in Yuma, AZ .
Technology
This installation is proprietary PowerSecure diesel generation
technology that meets Tier 4 Final EPA Requirements.
PowerSecure also provided proprietary switchgear and
controls for the Microgrid integration.
APS partnered with PowerSecure to complete the
design and implementation of a 25 MW microgrid
located at Yuma Marine Corps Air Station. The
microgrid project provides 100 percent energy
coverage base-wide, mitigates external electrical
grid failures, and provides enough backup power
to cover the base’s current and projected energy
requirements. The project was completed in
December 2016.

  • 22. 22 Footer Arizona Public Service: Yuma Marine Corps Air Station-25 MW Microgrid – Phase 1 Scope PowerSecure provided a turnkey installation of the Microgrid, 24/7 monitoring, and all preventative maintenance for the system. This Microgrid also supplies APS with autonomous frequency control and peak load management. Phase 2 of the project is planned to continue in the near future and will include integration of PV solar and energy storage. Location Yuma Air Station is located in Yuma, AZ . Technology This installation is proprietary PowerSecure diesel generation technology that meets Tier 4 Final EPA Requirements. PowerSecure also provided proprietary switchgear and controls for the Microgrid integration. APS partnered with PowerSecure to complete the design and implementation of a 25 MW microgrid located at Yuma Marine Corps Air Station. The microgrid project provides 100 percent energy coverage base-wide, mitigates external electrical grid failures, and provides enough backup power to cover the base’s current and projected energy requirements. The project was completed in December 2016.

Editor's Notes

  • #10: Distributed energy resources can allow customers to respond to price signals, supplying power (or reducing demand) when the price on the grid is high and consuming power when it is low. These small and modular facilities are cost-effective in many locations, which contributes to their popularity among residential and commercial customers. DER technologies, when working in tandem with advanced control technologies, can disconnect from the traditional grid and operate autonomously, thus creating Microgrids.
