My Expectations of You Course Objectives General Specific Content Behavioral Expectations
General Competencies Communicate effectively with others, Motivate self and others, Accept challenge of competition, Use effective oral communication skills, Use effective written communication skills, Exhibit dependability and punctuality, Produce quality work,
General Competencies (Continued) Process oral and written communications, Speak effectively in front of others, Define goals, Resolve conflict, Exhibit a positive attitude, Interact with others in a courteous and tactful manner.
Specific Content Competencies Describe characteristics of an entrepreneur, Define target market, Determine customer needs, wants, and concerns, Identify different types of business ownerships, Identify government regulations as they apply to business ownership and liability, Evaluate and analyze competition,
Specific Content Competencies (Continued) Explain the concept of profit, Explain the concept of business cycles, Explain the possibilities of international trade, Recognize relevant, ethical issues in business, Explain the relationship of government and business, Explain the concept of organized labor and business.
Classroom Rules Be Responsible. Show Respect. Be On Time. Do Not Touch the Equipment. Participate!!!
Be Responsible Do the assignments Study for the Tests Read the Chapters Take Care of Your Business Do the Thinks that are Expected of a Student at East High
Show Respect When I am talking, be quiet. Stay out of my desk, file cabinets, etc.. Use appropriate language to and about me. Be prepared.  Have your books, planner, paper, and writing utensils at all times! Take care of the classroom No insults or put downs.  (OK, not too many!!!) When someone else is talking, be quiet! Respect other students possessions. Respect guests to our classroom.
Be On Time Be in the classroom when the bell rings. Tardy is up to 4 min. late, then you are counted absent. School policy mandates 15 min detention for being tardy. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED!!!
Do Not Touch the Equipment There is thousands of dollars worth of equipment in this room. You may only use it with my prior approval.
Participate!!! This class requires your involvement. Read Chapters when assigned. Complete assignments on time. Be involved in the Student Company This class will only be as good as you make it!!!
Planners You are expected to have your planner at all times. The planner functions as your hall pass--no planner, no leaving! Use your planner to organize your life, not just school! One thing all successful people have in common- -they are organized!
What You Can Expect From Me Fair treatment. Extra help (if you ask for it). Clearly stated expectations. My full support in all your academic endeavors. Timely and appropriate feedback.
Class Components Homework. Tests. Student Company. MESE. Consultant.
Breakdown of Your Grade Homework   25% Tests   30% Student Comp   25% Consultant  20% Total 100% Daily Grade -- Adjustment made at grading time .
Homework On Time Complete Well thought out There will be some class time available, if used appropriately Late homework will be docked 10% per day
Tests We will thoroughly review most material Short answer questions will be given when the chapter is introduced Tests are to be taken with the class Cheating will not be tolerated
The Student Company As a class you will organize and operate a business for profit. Grade will be based on participation and effort, not $ earned The success of the company is only limited by you!!
MESE  Management and Economic Simulation Exercise A computer simulation where you will compete against other “companies” to market a product More information will be forthcoming
Consultant One day a week we will have a consultant from the business community in class. Positive, active participation is the basis for your grade
Plus (or Minus) On a daily basis I keep track of the extra things that you do (reading aloud, participation above and beyond, etc.) I also track any negative behaviors (sleeping, talking when I am talking, etc.) This ratio will help (or hurt) your grade!
Evaluation Criteria (Grades) Your active participation and involvement in all activities is very important You will be given grade updates on a regular basis. I am assuming that each of you deserves an A.  It is up to you to prove me right (or wrong)
The Last Word Any assignments that you miss for whatever reason, are your responsibility to make up. Certain parts of this course, like the student company and MESE, require your attendance to receive credit. Please be aware that the above criteria may be subject to change. Remember, this class will only be as good as you make it!!!
