What is lab safety?
• Lab safety refers to the set of guidelines and
practices that are followed to ensure the
safety and well-being of individuals working in
a laboratory setting. This includes protecting
researchers, students, and visitors from
potential hazards like chemicals, biological
agents, physical dangers, and equipment
malfunctions. Lab safety is crucial to prevent
accidents, injuries, or environmental damage
during experiments and procedures.
Lab Rules
• Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, goggles, and lab
coats.
• Never eat, drink, or chew gum in the lab to avoid contamination or exposure to hazardous materials.
• Label and store chemicals properly, following safety guidelines and compatibility requirements.
• Dispose of waste according to the lab's specified procedures for chemicals, biological materials, and
broken glass.
• Handle equipment carefully, report any malfunctions, and ensure everything is functioning before
