  Relevant to Learning Objectives Materials must meet the needs and contexts of the expected learning outcomes.  For example, if a teacher were to teach “Cause and Effect” writing, the materials should be on a issue or problem which students can discuss the cause and effect.
• 3.
  Students’ Proficiency Levels The language used in a particular material must be able to be understood by the students.  A material should not be too difficult or too easy considering the students’ proficiency levels.  For example, lower proficiency students should receive materials which are more straight forward and using simple vocabulary.
• 4.
  Promoting Student-Centered Learning  Materialsshould be able to give enough space for students to think critically of what they want to write.  This allows students to write critically and creatively.
• 5.
  Assimilate Culture orLiteracy Background  Students should be able to relate to the content of the materials.  This helps students to understand and generate ideas while writing.
