Project Starburst: a
guide to Twitter
Twitter has many other functions and uses but these are the basic steps to
getting started with your account for Project Starburst. Twitter will give you
the ability to get more information out to the public quickly and efficiently.
You will find that more people will respond and read your tweets because of
the size and speed of the information. Many businesses and non-profits use
Twitter to get information out there and increase their sales, and donations,
and gain new volunteers. Have fun!
Find your own voice and share what

Some of the basics…
Twitter is a social media website/application
that allows for quick updates featuring 140
character messages called ‘tweets’
Other users can follow you to see what
information you ‘tweet’
Tweets from other users you follow will be
displayed on your homepage
How to access your account…
Go to www.twitter.com
Go to the sign in box and provide your email
and password: project12
This will bring you to the twitter homepage
How to send a tweet…
Click the yellow ‘tweet’ button located on
the top right hand side of your browser
A text box will pop up where you can type out
your tweet
Once you are finished tweeting, press the
yellow ‘tweet’ button to make your tweet
public
To attach a photo to your tweet, click the
‘add photo’ button located in on the lower
left hand side of the text box
How to view and edit your profile…
From the homepage, click either your name
(Project Starburst) or the yellow sunburst
icon
From here you can see what your profile looks
like to others, including your own tweets
To edit your profile, click on the grey edit
profile button located in the
upper right hand corner
The edit profile area gives you the option to
change your photo, location, biography, and
color scheme
How to interact with other users…
To send a tweet to a specific user, type
their username, preceded by an @ sign
Retweeting is the reposting of another
user’s tweet. To retweet a user, click the
double arrow button underneath the text
of the tweet. Some users may not let other
accounts retweet them, so sometimes the
button may not work
