Prince Carl of Solms Braunfels, was a key figure in the establishment of German
culture in Texas. Despite being in Texas for only one year, Prince Carl of Solms
Braunfels was able to leave a lasting legacy of German culture and traditions through
the town of New Braunfels.
Early Life
Born on July 27, 1812 to Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Solms Braunfels and Princess
Friederike of Mecklenburg Strelitz, Friedrich Wilhelm Karl Ludwig Georg Alfred
Alexander, known as Prince Carl, was brought up in a wealthy noble family. He
was educated as a soldier and courtier, and was fluent in three different languages.
As with most nobles of the time, Prince Carl had an illustrious family tree and
many connections. Because of this, he received important military assignments and
awards. In 1834, he secretly married Luise Auguste Stephanie Beyrich, a woman of
lesser status. This was considered a disgrace and not fit for a prince, so in 1841, he
annulled his marriage to Luise after being pressured to by his family. While serving
in the cavalry of the Austrian Army, Prince Carl stumbled upon G.A. Schrepf s guide
to Texas immigrants, Charles Sealsfield s novel about Texas, and William Kennedy s

MEditerranean Desertification And Land USe (MEDALUS) project is one of the
largest project of the European Comission established to analyse the global and
regional climate changes. The MEDALUS model (Kosmas et al.1999) identifies
regions that are environmentally sensitive area (ESAs). In this model, different types
of ESAs to desertification can be analysed in terms of various parameters such as
landforms, soil, geology, vegetation, climate, and human actions. Each of these
parameters is grouped into various uniform classes and a weighting factor is assigned

Introduction:
The central nervous system is what connects the brain to the muscles of the body.
When a patient has an injury to the spinal cord, movements in certain parts of the
body will be affected based on the location of the injury. If the injury affects hand
motion then many day to day tasks are affected. This literature review seeks to
understand how an injury to the spinal cord impacts movement, and what has been
done so far to help those affected by spinal cord injuries.
Methods:
The information in this literature review was collected from an expert interview
and the search databases Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The expert
for the expert interview was selected based on experience with designing prosthetics
for individuals that had lost their hand and potentially part of their arm (Birdwell,
2016). The databases were searched using keywords spinal cord injury , hand
movement , and fine motor movement . In PubMed the selection was also narrowed
down by selecting only studies done on humans. New terminology was searched
through science direct due to the built in function that allows for key words from the
article to be selected for further information from multiple books or journals.

mentioned with the pyramids, the types of burials evolved over time. In Prehistoric
Egypt, bodies were buried in the desert because they would naturally be preserved

Along with the deceased body, small tokens were placed with the body which the
