Protocol Learning Outcomes - Define Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) as a protocol to facilitate communication over computer network.
What is protocol? Protocol is a communication rules. Protocol provide rule how to computers communicate. They define how devices intercommunicate in a network environment. Protocol
The importance of Protocol Protocol define how devices, applications or computers communicate in a network. To specify the format that the information bits or packets must contain when traveling across this connection. Protocol
Protocol The importance of Protocol Responsible for ensuring that the information bits or data packets are 5 sent or received in a proper sequence.
Some types of Protocol Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) Internet Protocol (IP) Protocol
Protocol Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) This protocol is used to access, send and receive Hypertext Markup Language files (HTML) files on the Internet.
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) This protocol is used for transferring e-mail between computers. Protocol
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) FTP is responsible for showing files to be copied between devices. Protocol
Transmission Control Protocol (HTTP) This protocol ensures the delivery of information packets across network. Protocol
Protocol Internet Protocol (IP) This important protocol is responsible logical addressing called IP address to route information between networks.
Types of Network Learning Outcomes - Describe the types of network communications technology: 1.) Internet 2.) Intranet 3.) Extranet
Types of Network Communication Technology 1 Internet 3 Extranet 2 Intranet
Internet
Internet The internet Was created in the 1960s. The world’s largest computer network which connects millions of computers all over the world. Internet transmits data by using Internet Protocol (IP).
Internet Usages of the Internet are: Information; Research and exchange. Commerce. Real time communication Banking Shopping Entertainment Education Gaming

Intranet
Intranet
Intranet The Intranet Intranet technology allows sharing of valuable information and lets business activities carry on even without a key personnel present at the business premises. Intranet is an internal network that uses Internet technologies. It is a small version of the Internet that exists within an organization.
Intranet Uses of intranet: Makes company information accessible to employees and facilitate working in groups. To access intranet, employees need to be online.
Intranet Uses of intranet: To let the employees access the intranet from everywhere around the world, employee will be given the intranet address, user name and password.
Intranet Intranet usually includes electronic publishing of materials related to an organization such as: Telephone directories Event calendars Employee handbook Job posting Email services News bulletin Company forms Staff information
Intranet Intranets too are used to conduct more sophisticated tasks such as: Groupware applications in project management. Remote discussion rooms (chat rooms) Group scheduling Video conferencing
Intranet
Internet vs. Intranet An internal network accessible by authorized individuals within an organization. Used to access global information and for instant communication by anyone, anywhere and anytime. Internet Comparison Between Internet And Intranet Intranet
Internet vs. Intranet 2.Connects within an organization. Intranet generally make company information accessible to employees and facilities group activities. 2.Connects and links to various organization like business, government agencies, educational institution and individuals. Internet Comparison Between Internet And Intranet Intranet
Extranet
Extranet
Extranet The extranet In the late 1990’s and early 2000, several industries started to use the term “extranet”. An extranet is a private network - uses Internet technology and public telecommunications system to securely share relevant information with authorized parties.
Extranet Central repositories of shared data made accessible via the web only to authorized members of particular work groups.
Extranet Uses of extranet: Share product catalogues with wholesalers. Jointly develop programs with other companies. Provide access services given by one company to a group of other companies. Share news of common interest exclusively with partner companies.
Internet vs. Extranet Uses internet technology Serves everybody Uses internet/ intranet technology Serves extended enterprise, including defined sets of customers or suppliers or other partner Internet Extranet Comparison Between Internet And Extranet
Internet vs. Extranet 3.With or without firewall. 4.Low security. 3.With firewall. 4.Tight security. Internet Extranet Comparison Between Internet And Extranet
Quiz 1. Identify the standard internet protocol and discuss its essential features. 2. Find all the words: INTERNET INTRANET EXTRANET PROTOCOL PACKETS INFORMATION

ANSWERS The standard protocol for the Internet is TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). The essential features of this protocol involve (1) Identifying sending and receive device and (2) reformatting information for transmission across the internet. Identification: Every computer on the internet has a unique numeric address called an IP address (Internet Protocol Address). Reformatting: Information sent or transmitted across the internet usually travel through numerous interconnected networks. Before the message is sent, it is reformatted or broken down into small part called packets.
