Purpose of test
1. The purpose of test is to assess the performance of students .
2. Testing helps in assigning grades to students as per their performance .
3. Through testing teachers predict the performance of students in future .
Scope of test
 Test assesses students’ strength and weakness
 Test helps in predicting future performance of students
 Test helps students to bring improvement in learning
PRINCIPLES OF TEST
 Test should be valid.
 Test should be reliable and consistent.
 There are four principles of test:
1.Practicality
2.Reliability
3.Validity
4.Authenticity
Purpose of evaluation
 To discover the extend of competence.
 To predict the educational practices
 To clarify student’s degree, proficiency in a particular educational practice
 To make plan for guiding the growth of the individual student
 To diagnose the individual students educational weakness and strength
Principle of the evaluation
 Determine and clarifying what is to be evaluated always has priority in the
evaluation process
 Evaluation techniques should be selected according to the purposes to be served
 Comprehensive evaluation requires a variety of evaluation techniques
 Proper use of evaluation techniques requires and awareness of both their
limitations and strengths
 Evaluation is a means to and end, not an end itself
Scope of the evaluation
 Value judgment
 Ascertaining the extend to which the educational objectives have been attained
 Effectiveness of appraisal or method of instruction
 Identifies pupil’s strength and weakness, difficulties and problems, needs and
demands
 Provide baseline for guidance ad counseling
