INEQUALITY
Pythagorean Theorem Formula Mathematics IX
PROPERTIES OF
INEQUALITY
1. Transitive Property of Inequality
Let's say;
If 5 > 2 and 2 > 1 ,then 5 >
1.
Likewise,
If 1 < 2 and 2 < 5, then 1 <
2. Addition Property of Inequality
If a > b , then a + c > b + c.
Likewise,
If a < b, then a + c < b + c.
For instance,
If x + 2 > 2, then x + 2 + 1 > 2 + 1
likewise,
If 2 < x + 2, then 2 + 1 < x + 2 +1
Another example;
If x + 3 > 4, then x + 3 + (-2) > 4 + (-2)
likewise,
If 4 < x + 3, then 4 + (-2) < x + 3 + (-2)
3. Multiplication Property of Inequality
If a > b and c > 0, then ac > bc.
If a < b and c < 0, then ac < bc.
If a = b and c = 0, then ac = bc.
For instance;
If 2 < 3, then 2(2) < 3(2).
If 3x > 3, then 3x

given statement.
1. If 2 > 0 and 0 > -2, then 2 > -2.
Transitive Property of Inequality
2. If 2 < 4, then 2 + 15 < 4 + 15
