- 3. GIRL For this role we used one of our group members to play the girl because she knew how we needed to portray the character (young and defenceless) which we was able to do through her actions. Kelsey is a 17 year old, White British girl, who played the role extremely well. We chose her because She represented the image of the girl perfectly due to the way she dressed, and acted on screen. Kelsey was also chosen due to her commitment and they way in which she got into character, she didn’t mind being tied up and dressed to look like she had been abused. Kelsey is shown to be the protagonist which she plays very well through her facial expressions (innocent).
- 4. MALE For this role we used our teacher, Mr Atkins, due to him being a middle aged man. Meaning that he did not need to act a different age, which worked perfectly. He made this character work effectively due to his personality (kind/caring) we were able to portray the, ‘scared of his wife guy’ really well, when he is putting the equipment in the bag he shows that he is obeying his wife. But on the other hand we wanted to also portray an evil and disturbing side to him which Mr Atkins rose to the challenge and made the sequence look disturbing and violent due to his strong and powerful action he made it look more realistic. Mr Atkins was shown as the antagonist and was played affectively because he create the mundane feel to the sequence.

HOW IS THE AUDIENCE MEANT TO REACT TO THEM AND UNDERSTAND THEM? • The audience is able to react to them due to the character being around the same age as the target audience, which helps to make the narrative effective because they will link more to a person their age. • They will understand it more because they will be able to reflect these characters more, helping to target the audience more effectively. • The target market would also be able to relate through the use of clothing and hairstyle. Because the clothing is referenced to what the audience is personally wearing to help make the sequence look more realistic. • We also connected through cultural signifiers through the use of hair, make- up and clothing:
- 6. …CONTINUED • Make up and hair reflect on the audience due to the way I which we have but dark marks on Kelsey face to make her look realistic and like she had been abuse, this connects with the audience because it help to portray the genre and also get them thinking about what the man has done to her. Her hair was shown as messy, portraying that she has been violated, this is also shown through the use of slow motion, by slowing the scene down when the man sweeps her hair away from her face also helps to relate to the sexual references and also link to the audience because they are not restricted from sexual scenes. • Costume plays a big part in our opening sequence because this helps to portray the characters personality. For example; the man wears a sleeve to indicated that he is tough, and shows power over the girl (showing dominance) the girl wears a black top which we help make the scene effective because by lowering the straps we help to relate the audience due to the sexual reference.
- 7. GENDER REPRESENTATION • Through using a young girl we were able to portray and vulnerable and stereotypical girl. We only show the scenes from when he is being abused to ensure that the audience question the situation and enquired about how the situation came down to her being violated. We showed the girl vulnerability through the use of lighting and camera angles. The lighting worked effectively because it was able to enhance the girl feature of her face and show her expression (scared). The camera help to capture the girl experience and show the audience that she is unable to control the situation. Close up made it effective because we was able to get a clear image of how he was tying her up and what with. • The man was shown as a stereotypical tough guy due to the way in which he does not show his face and wants to keep his identity a secret. His gloves also help to portray this because they are ripped suggesting he had done this before.
