How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
Themes
 The theme of our music video is confidence of the artist. We chose this theme because
the song is about a girl who doesn't need a man to make her happy and she can cope
perfectly without him. We also wanted to portray a powerful woman. This is done
through the low angle shots in the music video. we also used high key lighting which
means we shot our music video during the day time. when the day light was out. These
are the parts where the song is really up beat and towards the end we filmed during
the night to get a good landscape and portray our urban RnB genre.
 The lyrics of the song also helped us to portray the theme of confidence and attitude.
"If you want a bad bitch making money". By the artist referring to her self as a "bad
bitch" she is trying to say that she is a woman that is the "ride or die" type of woman.
This is a sign of confidence within her self. we did this through mid shots during the
part where that lyric came.
Themes in Print Products
 The theme of confidence is carried out in our print products. On my front cover,
the artist is looking up where she has her arm over her shoulder. I picked this
image because it shows her fierceness and also shows the more relaxed side.
 The artist is not looking directly into the camera which could be breaking the
fourth wall as usually you would have the artist giving direct contact with her
audience. We have done this in order to subvert from the typical covers and to
give our product some originality and make it unique.

 For my advert, I decided that I wanted the artist to be in the middle of the page
where the artist is looking directly into the camera. This is because I wanted her to
give her audience direct eye contact through her advert so that there could be
some sort of connection between her and her audience. Similarly in my case
studies, The artist is the main attraction, although they are not giving direct eye
contact, I wanted my artist not to be perceived as vulnerable but instead confident
and fierce.
Colours lettering and house style
 For our print products, my group and I decided that we would have a red white and black
house style. This is due to the feedback we received about out initial ideas. We concluded
that red is a bold colour and black and the contrasting black and white colours complement
each other.
 For our lettering, we decided that we would use Minion Pro through out as it is very simple
and at the same time professional and bold. Similarly in Tinashe and Rihanna’s Album
covers, they use very simple fonts that are consistent throughout their album.
 Similarly, we used the Minion Pro in the beginning of our music video when introducing the
song to keep consistency through out our work.
Colours lettering and house style CD
 For my CD, I decided to carry on with the house style of red white and black, I also
decided to put an image of the artist on the CD its self which is something that I
have not seen in my case studies.
 The font minion pro is still on the CD and I decided to write the name of the song
and artist on the CD which is similar to other CDs.
Locations Music video
 For our locations, we picked places that have high key lighting and bold colours.
This is because we wanted to portray an upbeat and bold theme in our music
video and also to represent the urban side of our RnB genre. Barthes's theory of
action codes would link with this as he says that certain codes that tell the
audience what they are supposed to think. We also used this locations to present
our artists authorage of a quirky young girl who is confident within her own skin
and does not need a man to validate her.
 We also used busy locations to complement the fast pace of the song and to also
show the artists confidence.
Locations print products and music video.
 For our print products we decided to use the photography studio and filming
studio in order to maximise the professionalism of our print products.
 Similarly to our music video, we used the light projections for our print products
as the back drop of the TV studio was black and we wanted our back drop to be
white and carry on the theme of Projections from our music video to our Digi
Packs. We wanted to keep the idea consistent through out both products.
Distribution
 The distribution for our music video will help our promotion of our artist and
further increase her fan base. My music track advert could be featured in
magazines such as XXL. Which represents our music genre of urban RnB. I also
included her social media links so that the artist would be connected through
different types of technologies and her music can be downloaded on apps like
ITunes and Google play.
 This would attract audiences of the younger ages that would be interested in the
RnB culture and music. The social media aspect of our advertisement allows the
artist to interact and communicate with her fans. Which related to David
Gauntlet's 2.0 Theory that artists can use social media how they want.
