Question 6: What have you learnt
about technologies when
constructing your magazine?
Photoshop – I used Photoshop for the construction of my front cover and
contents page, and also the editing of the images on my double page
spread. Photoshop allowed my to create my magazine more freely and
creatively, meaning my magazine would look as close to how I would have
planned it to. I learnt a range of techniques and skills including how to add
text, edit images and how to use the layers feature. By learning these
features, I could create a magazine and edit images that were bold, and
clear, sticking to my plan and creating a magazine that sticks to the codes
and conventions, which in the end would attract and audience to my
magazine because of these features.
InDesign – I used InDesign to make my Double page spread. From using
this I have also learnt the basics of this software, like how to add columns to
text boxes, and how to resize images and make sure the image is actually
changing size, and not just the size of the box. This again allowed me to
easily create a double page spread that will be accessible for the audience
due to it being clear and readable, however, also look visually aesthetic and
not have any problems technically that may occur if I had used software like
Microsoft.
Panasonic Camera – I used this to take my images form my final piece. Using the
camera taught me to be more creative and thoughtful about my images, due to having
better quality and more control over the settings. This allowed me to make my images
more unique and suitable for the my music magazine that will attract the target
audience to my magazine as they will be a better quality, when in the creation process
of completing my music magazine.
Blogger – I used blogger to upload all of my coursework onto throughout the whole of
the coursework. Blogger allows me to keep all of my coursework in one place and in an
organised way, making the work easy to access and look back on. From using blogger I
have learnt how to upload to a blog and make it presentable, including how to embed
items and resize anything that does not fit onto the page. It also enables me to look
back at my preliminary coursework, which means I can check all of the targets and tasks
I struggled with and how I could improve, like how I struggled to stick with my drafts,
and how I could create drafts that are easier to stick to.
Prezzi/Slides/Emaze- I used these to create creative and more appealing presentations
then using normal Microsoft word for example, I used a software called ‘Slides’, which
enabled me to embed examples of music videos for task 6, helping create an easier way
to present the examples of the target audience that I wanted to give. By using these
online software's, I learnt the line from what looks professional and what looks tacky, as
applying too many filters and transitions can make the presentations too confusing and
over the top. This means that the work I have produced and work I will produce in the
future will be clear and easy to understand
Sound cloud – I used Sound cloud to upload my focus groups. It was an
easy way to upload and embed items onto my blog and keep the length and
quality of the sounds. I leant how to transform a voice note on my phone to a
MP3 file by using this software. This meant I could easily embed my audio
files onto my blog without them loosing anything. I used these for an extra
task that I did on how to pronounce the chosen masthead for my final music
magazine. By having this sound file, it allowed me to be able to prove that
my masthead is readable to the target audience.
IMovie – I used iMovie to create my final focus group, where I had to record
and edit together clips, and make the video clear and understandable. It is a
more simple way of editing, compared to Adobe Premiere, as you can only
cut and past clips, and do very simple edits. However, in the instance where
was only editing a few short clips together to make one long video, where I
didn’t need edits, it was very useful. I learnt the basics of editing a video, by
cutting and pasting clips of films and adding transitions to make the film
make sense and be clear.
Microsoft Documents – I used these software’s to make the more longer
pieces of work like the publication history of Time Inc., which was task 4, as
they are simple to use and edit, meaning that my work could look
professional and still be all there, which is slightly harder to do on the online
software’s like emaze and prezzi. It meant that for task four, I could create
work that was easy to look back on and check, and not get too distracted in
the effects on the work.
