• What is it?
 term can be collectively used for fuels used in vehicles (2-, 4- Wheelers Etc.) (Petrol,
diesel)
• How it is used Today?
 As the term itself suggest it is used as fuels for vehicles
• How are WE wasting it?
 We are unnecessarily using vehicles for small distance.
 Also Individual having Cars use it even for travelling alone
which can actually be avoided
• What can be done to change the situation
 Emphasis on walking
 Not by using vehicles unnecessarily
 By doing Car pooling
• What is it?
 term can be collectively used for all the electric devices used in homes, industries and
elsewhere.
• How it is used Today?
 Electronic items find a variety of use in day to day life in homes and in industries and many
other places.
• How are WE wasting it?
 As E-waste (All the electric run devices when taken out from use becomes E-waste). The
potential around the recyclability of electrical equipment
has not yet been much traversed thus an indirect wastage.
• What can be done to change the situation?
 The potential of recyclability should be traversed
 Any electrical equipment must not be obseleted
until no possibility of further use.
Electrical Energy (Electricity)
• What is it?
 Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and flow of
electric charge. Electrical currents exist due to electricity.
• How it is used Today?
 It is generated in many ways in power plant, from there electricity reaches our homes after
long journey through transmission lines and we use it to run various electric devices.
• How are WE wasting it?
 A huge amount of electricity is getting wasted worldwide due to unnecessary use
(running) of various electrical devices at home which is not only a waste of money and natural
resources but it is also hugely harming the environment courtesy of the
process of generation of the same.
• What can be done to change the situation ?
 Wastage in this way of electricity is not at all a good thing and steps
should be initiated by every individual on his personal level to avoid this
as much as possible.
• What is it?
 Paper is a thin material produced by pressing together moist fibers, typically
cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, and drying them into flexible sheets.
• How it is used Today?
 Paper is a versatile material with many uses the most common being for writing and
printing.
• How are WE wasting it?
 More wastage of paper occurs indirectly rather than directly. Until recent times a lot of
paper was being used in what is referred to as paperwork in various institutions.
• What can be done to change the situation
 The process of reducing this indirect wastage has been
already initiated through the rising concept of digitalization.
This good work must go on.
Water
(Only 1% of water is actually available for human use on earth)
• What is it?
 Water is a transparent fluid which forms the world's streams, lakes, oceans and rain, and is
the major constituent of the fluids of living things.
• How it is used Today?
 Water finds dozens of uses all over the world from its use for the purpose to drinking to
watering plants (crops), washing vehicles, clothes, utensils to use for brushing our teeth’s.
• How are WE wasting it?
 A lot of water is getting wasted daily indirectly through various ways including drinking water
being used for washing vehicles to unnecessary running of taps during various things.
• What can be done to change the situation
 Unnecessary running of water from taps must be stopped.
 Provisions must be taken by one and all for storing rainwater
and recycling water (at least) for use for non-potable purposes
washing cars.
Clothing
(use them or let others use)
• What is it?
 Clothing is fiber and textile material worn on the body.
• How it is used Today?
 Clothes find a major use as a material (thing) worn on the body. Other uses include use as
cleaning material etc.
• How are WE wasting it?
 Making of clothes is a quite long process. It has been observed that a huge amount
of clothing material is getting wasted to due people
obseleting it’s use very early whereas it can be still
used ……….
• What can be done to change the situation ?
……….for the purpose of cleaning an or else they can be
donated so that at least other people can use them (primarily)
people who can’t afford much of purchase of clothing material.

Bamboo
• What is it?
 Bamboo is a tribe of flowering perennial evergreen plants in the grass family Poaceae, subfamily
Bambusoideae, tribe Bambuseae.
• How it is used Today?
 Bamboo is used in Chinese medicine for treating infections and healing.
 Bamboo, like true wood, is a natural composite material with a high strength-to-weight ratio useful for
structures.
 Bamboo fiber has been used to make paper in China since early times. A high-quality, handmade paper is still
produced in small quantities. Coarse bamboo paper is still used to make spirit money in many Chinese
communities
 Bamboo has traditionally been used to make a wide range of everyday utensils, particularly in Japan. Several
manufacturers offer bamboo bicycles, surfboards, snowboards, and skateboards. Due to its flexibility, bamboo is
also used to make fishing rods.
• Aspect and Prospect as Eco-friendly material
 Bamboo is a very fast growing crop (plant) thus opening up
Possibilities of higher yields(thus increasing the amount available for use )
and also serving the purpose of preventing soil erosion.
• What is it?
 Bagasse is the fibrous matter that remains after sugarcanes are
crushed to extract their juice.
• How it is used Today?
 It is used either as fuel in sugar mills or as raw material for making paper.
• Aspect and Prospect as Eco-friendly material
 As it’s a by product thus its use is appreciable in the ways it is currently used
and further research of it for more possible uses
should be welcomed as it is produced it quite huge
quantities.

Fly Ash
• What is it?
 Also known as flue-ash, it is one of the residues generated in combustion,
and comprises the fine particles that rise with the flue gases. In industrial
context, fly ash refers to ash produced during combustion of coal.
• How it is used Today?
 Concrete production, as a substitute material for Portland cement and sand
 Road sub-base construction
 As Aggregate substitute material (e.g. for brick production)
 Mineral filler in asphaltic concrete
 Loose application on roads and parking lots for ice
Control.
 Other:- cosmetics, toothpaste, kitchen counter tops,
floor and ceiling tiles etc.
Summary for Eco-friendly materials
• This was just a small list to put light on various materials harming the environment and use of some doing the
good work, but this list is not such a small one there are hundreds of more aspects and prospects which require
some addressing thus before closing this presentation. Let’s have a look on few more things .
 Plastic:- Plastic is one of the most used commodity in today’s world. A lot of progress has already made.
But due to the large range of uses this need some more further research.
 Compact fluorescent lamps :- famously called (CFL’s) have surely brought a revolution in the world giving
completely new lighting solutions which save lot’s of energy at the same time giving even more luminance
then comparable counterparts. There is still one aspect that is less known about CFL’s that’s in the presence of
mercury in it which raises concerns for the decomposition of the used ones (just like Nuclear fuels).
 Use of cycles:- Cycles have been a big thing in their own time being used a lot by all people. It was only the
Option available some decades ago before the motored vehicles arrive. It’s not only a non polluting vehicle but at
the same time it’s a great way of exercising for it’s rider.
 Renewable (Non-conventional ) Resources Of Energy:- Due to concern already surfaced around the rapidly
decreasing amounts of conventional sources of energy, this topic is already getting importance but awareness still
lacks about this in the people thus reducing it’s possible use to some extent.

The potential around the recyclability of electrical equipment has not yet been much traversed thus an indirect wastage. • What can be done to change the situation?  The potential of recyclability should be traversed  Any electrical equipment must not be obseleted until no possibility of further use.
  • 4. Electrical Energy (Electricity) • What is it?  Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and flow of electric charge. Electrical currents exist due to electricity. • How it is used Today?  It is generated in many ways in power plant, from there electricity reaches our homes after long journey through transmission lines and we use it to run various electric devices. • How are WE wasting it?  A huge amount of electricity is getting wasted worldwide due to unnecessary use (running) of various electrical devices at home which is not only a waste of money and natural resources but it is also hugely harming the environment courtesy of the process of generation of the same. • What can be done to change the situation ?  Wastage in this way of electricity is not at all a good thing and steps should be initiated by every individual on his personal level to avoid this as much as possible.
  • 5. • What is it?  Paper is a thin material produced by pressing together moist fibers, typically cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, and drying them into flexible sheets. • How it is used Today?  Paper is a versatile material with many uses the most common being for writing and printing. • How are WE wasting it?  More wastage of paper occurs indirectly rather than directly. Until recent times a lot of paper was being used in what is referred to as paperwork in various institutions. • What can be done to change the situation  The process of reducing this indirect wastage has been already initiated through the rising concept of digitalization. This good work must go on.

Water (Only 1% of water is actually available for human use on earth) • What is it?  Water is a transparent fluid which forms the world's streams, lakes, oceans and rain, and is the major constituent of the fluids of living things. • How it is used Today?  Water finds dozens of uses all over the world from its use for the purpose to drinking to watering plants (crops), washing vehicles, clothes, utensils to use for brushing our teeth’s. • How are WE wasting it?  A lot of water is getting wasted daily indirectly through various ways including drinking water being used for washing vehicles to unnecessary running of taps during various things. • What can be done to change the situation  Unnecessary running of water from taps must be stopped.  Provisions must be taken by one and all for storing rainwater and recycling water (at least) for use for non-potable purposes washing cars.
  • 7. Clothing (use them or let others use) • What is it?  Clothing is fiber and textile material worn on the body. • How it is used Today?  Clothes find a major use as a material (thing) worn on the body. Other uses include use as cleaning material etc. • How are WE wasting it?  Making of clothes is a quite long process. It has been observed that a huge amount of clothing material is getting wasted to due people obseleting it’s use very early whereas it can be still used ………. • What can be done to change the situation ? ……….for the purpose of cleaning an or else they can be donated so that at least other people can use them (primarily) people who can’t afford much of purchase of clothing material. ……….

Bamboo • What is it?  Bamboo is a tribe of flowering perennial evergreen plants in the grass family Poaceae, subfamily Bambusoideae, tribe Bambuseae. • How it is used Today?  Bamboo is used in Chinese medicine for treating infections and healing.  Bamboo, like true wood, is a natural composite material with a high strength-to-weight ratio useful for structures.  Bamboo fiber has been used to make paper in China since early times. A high-quality, handmade paper is still produced in small quantities. Coarse bamboo paper is still used to make spirit money in many Chinese communities  Bamboo has traditionally been used to make a wide range of everyday utensils, particularly in Japan. Several manufacturers offer bamboo bicycles, surfboards, snowboards, and skateboards. Due to its flexibility, bamboo is also used to make fishing rods. • Aspect and Prospect as Eco-friendly material  Bamboo is a very fast growing crop (plant) thus opening up Possibilities of higher yields(thus increasing the amount available for use ) and also serving the purpose of preventing soil erosion.
  • 9. • What is it?  Bagasse is the fibrous matter that remains after sugarcanes are crushed to extract their juice. • How it is used Today?  It is used either as fuel in sugar mills or as raw material for making paper. • Aspect and Prospect as Eco-friendly material  As it’s a by product thus its use is appreciable in the ways it is currently used and further research of it for more possible uses should be welcomed as it is produced it quite huge quantities. ………..
  • 10. Fly Ash • What is it?  Also known as flue-ash, it is one of the residues generated in combustion, and comprises the fine particles that rise with the flue gases. In industrial context, fly ash refers to ash produced during combustion of coal. • How it is used Today?  Concrete production, as a substitute material for Portland cement and sand  Road sub-base construction  As Aggregate substitute material (e.g. for brick production)  Mineral filler in asphaltic concrete  Loose application on roads and parking lots for ice Control.  Other:- cosmetics, toothpaste, kitchen counter tops, floor and ceiling tiles etc.

Summary for Eco-friendly materials • This was just a small list to put light on various materials harming the environment and use of some doing the good work, but this list is not such a small one there are hundreds of more aspects and prospects which require some addressing thus before closing this presentation. Let’s have a look on few more things .  Plastic:- Plastic is one of the most used commodity in today’s world. A lot of progress has already made. But due to the large range of uses this need some more further research.  Compact fluorescent lamps :- famously called (CFL’s) have surely brought a revolution in the world giving completely new lighting solutions which save lot’s of energy at the same time giving even more luminance then comparable counterparts. There is still one aspect that is less known about CFL’s that’s in the presence of mercury in it which raises concerns for the decomposition of the used ones (just like Nuclear fuels).  Use of cycles:- Cycles have been a big thing in their own time being used a lot by all people. It was only the Option available some decades ago before the motored vehicles arrive. It’s not only a non polluting vehicle but at the same time it’s a great way of exercising for it’s rider.  Renewable (Non-conventional ) Resources Of Energy:- Due to concern already surfaced around the rapidly decreasing amounts of conventional sources of energy, this topic is already getting importance but awareness still lacks about this in the people thus reducing it’s possible use to some extent.
