Amazon.
O Amazonía region in southern Colombia comprises the departments of
Amazonas, Caquetá, Guainía, Guaviare, Putumayo and Vaupés, and
covers an area of 403,000 km², 35% of Colombia's total territory. The
region is mostly covered by tropical rainforest, or jungle, which is a part
of the massive Amazon rainforest.

O Biogeographical subregions[edit]
O The region is bounded by the East Andes along the western edge and
extends to the Venezuelan and Brazilian borders in the east. The
northern limit begins with the Guaviare and Vichada Rivers and extends
south to the Putumayo and Amazon Rivers.
O The Amazon region is divided up into distinct subregions:
Insular.
O The insular region of Colombia includes the oceanic islands outside
of the continental territories. In the Caribbean this includes the San
Andrés and Providencia Islands near the coast of Nicaragua and
the many coastal islands along mainland Colombia. In the Pacific is
includes Gorgona Island and Malpelo Island. The ecosystems and
wildlife found on these island are respective to the mainland areas
they are near to. For example, the terrestrial habitat on Gorgona
Island is tropical rainforest similar to what is found in the Pacific
lowlands.
Orinoquia.
O The Orinoquía region is one of the five natural regions of Colombia that
belongs to the Orinoco River watershed. It is also known colloquially as
the Eastern Plains from the Spanish Llanos Orientales. The region
covers most of the area of the departments of Meta, Arauca, Casanare
and Vichada.
Pacific.
O The Orinoquía region is one of the five natural regions of Colombia that
belongs to the Orinoco River watershed. It is also known colloquially as
the Eastern Plains from the Spanish Llanos Orientales. The region
covers most of the area of the departments of Meta, Arauca, Casanare
and Vichada.
Andean.

O The Caribbean region of Colombia or Caribbean coast region is in the north of
Colombia and is mainly composed of eight Departments located contiguous to
the Caribbean.[1] The area covers a total land area of 132,288 km2 (51,077
sq mi) including the San Andres Island Archipelago of San Andrés,
Providencia and Santa Catalina in the Caribbean sea and corresponding to
approximately 1/10 of the total territory of Colombia. The Caribbean region of
Colombia is home to approximately 9 million people according to the
Colombian Census 2005.[2]
O The Caribbean region coast extends from the Gulf of Urabá to the Gulf of
Venezuela. Straddling the coast are Colombia's two main Atlantic port cities of
Barranquilla and Cartagena. The administration of the region is covered by
eight department governments; Atlántico, Bolívar, Cesar, Sucre, Córdoba,
Magdalena, La Guajira and San Andrés y Providencia. These 8 departments
also cover approximately 182 municipalities, 1093 corregimientos and 493
caserios according to the 2005 Census by DANE. Most of its inhabitants
speak a dialect of Caribbean Spanish with variations within its subregions.
