Titles
The titles appear almost immediately, the titles are
placed on all the black backgrounds in white to make
them pop, but after about two seconds they begin to
shudder to show that the character may be unstable.
Then we see a graphic match where the
photos and titles in neon paint which
shows the childlike side of our character.

During the opening the titles are layered over
the top of the backing writing, this is done to
try to confuse and unsteady the audience.
Mise-en scene
The scene opens with an
establishing close up of a
sorrow eye which brings up
an enigma of who is she?
Later we see a
close up of the
white rose, meant
to be a sign of
purity and beauty,
but this rose is
dying maybe
connoting death or
fake beauty.
We then see pictures of medical files that she is
covering in red nail varnish, an enigma? What is
she hiding is it her medical file? Or is it someone
else’s. All we know is that she wants to hide it
because the names are scratched out.

Then we see her pouring red nail
varnish between her fingers
which highlight her eagerness to
kill. We then see later
establishing shots of mirrors and
make up which highlights her
vanity.

All of the shots in this opening are close up with jerky
camera shakes which highlights that this is a psychological
thriller and creates a tense atmosphere

Throughout the sequence we see short clips of photos
which raise more questions like medical files and family
photos.
Sound
The sequence uses a very freaky sound track
which causes the audience to feel unsettled.
The music make you think of destruction and
upsetting things, which matches the images of
broken glass and torn pages. There are no
lyrics in the soundtrack, which causes the
audience to concentrate on the images. The
tempo of the music increases as the sequence
progresses which makes the audience feel
suspense.

the blinds in the bank. The stripes also connote the
stripes on prison outfits and the bars on doors maybe
to highlight the crime later in the film.

slides back and forward maybe to show the
fear and uncertainty of the character.

one thing repeatedly.
Definition of psycho = the repeating of an

heart rate to increase and creates high
amounts of tension, the music also creates
a sense of fear and suspicion

psychos obsessions with repetition

diagonal lines causing the reader to watch and follow

compulsive needs of repetition in a mental
