INTRODUCTION
Radio is a strong medium of information, education and
entertainment in society because it has the access to the grass
root level of any particular society
Different category programs are broadcasted on different radio
stations, but they share the same process of turning an idea
into a program
An effective output is requirement of all the radio stations, to
do so collaborative efforts of station manager, program
manager, and producer along with staff members are required
In this regard Radio producer is considered as the back bone of
Radio station, because of his key role in production process and
rest of the responsibilities of running a radio station

RESPONBILITIES OF RADIO PRODUCER
Specific responsibilities vary depending on
the programme and station and producers
may sometimes also take on the roles of
presenters or reporters.
In general, tasks can include:

 The seniority and specific responsibilities of a Radio Producer may vary considerably
depending on the programme or station
 Radio producers are responsible for generating Ideas
 A creative producer basically creates content and manages the whole radio production
process for both live and recorded programmes
 They also generate original ideas, identifying suitable ideas from others, and carrying out
thorough research
 Producer decides the nature of the program according to the idea i.e. format, music, script
etc.
 producing pre-production briefings for presenters, reporters, technical staff and other
contributors
 Management and production depends on the nature and theme of the program, therefore
producers are responsible for, managing the logistics of getting people, resources and
equipment together to the right place at the right time
 Producers decide the duration of the program and its broadcasting timing as well
 He is responsible to choose the script writer and Rj according to the theme of the program
 checking that copyrights are cleared and understanding media law

 Producers motivate and counsel their working team to do more better and to
appreciate their efforts which builds friendly environment
 Producers keep check on everyone involve in program production to ensure
things goes as planned and according to the cue sheet
 Producers suggest the revenue generating ideas according the timing and the
theme of the program
 Listening to the program as audience, guiding RJs regarding pronunciation,
sharing ideas, cue sheet making etc. are also producers responsibilities
 contributing to, and making use of, an archive of audio resources which can be
re-used
 Making sure all the technical equipment's are in order or they know how to
use them
 Use of computer, recording equipment, studio decoration, alert technical
engineers and vigilant duty officer
 Ensuring that program will meet the set standards and all the objectives are
achieved by keeping it all under policy of the station

Radio Producers should know how to access, evaluate
and use all relevant information sources. They obtain
permissions or licenses for recording or broadcasting on
location, and for the use of music, sound effects and
audio archive material
Producers deals with the coordinators and marketing
team in order to determine the program’s broadcasting
timing
Supervision of Editing for recorded program
Responding to audience feedback, referring on to other
departments as necessary
Working to tight deadlines, Travel during the working
day and absence from home overnight may be required
when working on location.

SKILLS
 To perform all the above duties radio producers are required to have some skills
 A creative producer is a requirement of any radio station, competition is high,
creative content in required
 To do this role you have to have a good understanding of radio such as knowing
knowledge of the law, ethics and industry regulations around radio production
 He must have the confidence and tenacity to pursue information, overcome
obstacles and pitch ideas to senior colleagues
 He must have excellent communication skills, complemented by diplomacy,
empathy and patience and along with the ability to build rapport and draw
information from people etc.
 using technology, such as Cool Edit Pro, Pro Tools and Adobe Audition, for
editing and production purposes
 As the media becomes increasingly inter-disciplinary, radio producers may also
be involved in generating content for online and other platforms.

 He must be educated but Educational qualifications are not the only
criteria for success - work experience and evidence of practical and
technical skills for radio are valued much more highly especially for the
producers
 an ability to work as a part of a team and also independently
 good organizational skills and an ability to cope under pressure
 an awareness of current affairs and good general knowledge
 a real interest in, and curiosity about, all sorts of people
 a lively mind, able to make connections between different ideas and
subjects
 the ability to get to grips with new subject matter quickly
 a willingness to embrace new technology and learn technical skills
 Self-confidence, persistence and determination to overcome rejection
and break into this competitive industry
