I Corinthians 1:1-9 (NIV)
1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of
God, and our brother Sosthenes, 2 To the church of God in
Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to
be his holy people, together with all those everywhere
who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord
and ours: 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I always thank my God for you
because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him
you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of
speech and with all knowledge— 6 God thus confirming
our testimony about Christ among you. 7 Therefore you do
not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord
Jesus Christ to be revealed. 8 He will also keep you firm to
the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our
Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, who has called you into
fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Are SPIRITUAL in Nature
WHY?
The apostle was referring to the spiritual riches that are of
permanent value rather than financial riches that are of
temporary value
Jesus in Matthew 6:20, “Store up for yourselves treasures
in heaven”

Riches of Christ
Romans 2:4 - Kindness, forbearance and patience
Romans 9:23 – Mercy
Romans 11:33 - Wisdom and knowledge
Ephesians 2:4,7 - Rich in mercy; Riches of his grace
Riches Through Christ
2 Cor. 8:9 - 9 For you know the grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for
your sake he became poor, so that you through
his poverty might become rich.

Enriched in 3 Ways
1. Enriched by a New Relationship
2. Enriched by Resources for
Victorious Life
3. Enriched by Rewards from God

Enriched by a New Relationship
Faith is the Key element being enriched in the new
relationship
a. Become the Children of God
b. Become the Partaker of
Heavenly Blessings
c. Assurance of Victory

Really??
Prince William’s Son was named by the England
Media as “New Prince”??
New Millionaire??
Born with Silver spoon? Or Born again as the
child of God?

Children of God
we should recognize and rejoice that the
blessings associated with being children of God
are far greater than any legacy that can be
passed on from earthly parents

Children of God
Harriet E. Buell in her Hymn wrote,
My Father is rich in houses and lands,
He holds the wealth of the world in His hands!
Of rubies and diamonds, of silver and gold,
His coffers are full — He has riches untold.
I’m a child of the King, A child of the King!
With Jesus my Savior, I’m a child of the King!

Partaker of Heavenly Blessings
Through Faith in Christ – We
become Partakers of the divine
nature and Heavenly blessings…
Eternal Life Through Christ (1 John 5:11-12)

2 Peter 1:4
4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious
promises, so that through them you may participate in the
divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world
caused by evil desires.
1 John 5:11-12
11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this
life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does
not have the Son of God does not have life.

This new life from God is qualitative as
well as quantitative. It causes us to love
the things that God loves. It causes us to
want to do the things that God would
want us to do.

Assurance of Victory
Through Faith in Christ
Victory over Death?? Means - Hope of
Resurrection (Many don’t have it –
Even among the believers)

Assurance of Victory

Savior who conquered death and grave
promised to give the same victory to
those who trust Him.
He who served as a carpenter in Nazareth
has gone into the heavenly carpenter
shop to prepare a home for those who
love him

Mark 14:36: “And He [Jesus] said, ‘Abba Father, all

nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.’”

bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of
adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father’.”
Galatians 4:6: “And because you are sons, God has sent
forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out,

For Achievements? No
No merits/demerits (2 Tim 4:7-8)
For Selected People? No
No Choice Whatsoever

i. Rewards in the Present
Peace (John 14:27)
Joy (1 Thes. 1:6)
Earthly Riches (Mat 6:33)

Peace in Greek – “eirhnh” Eirene
Eirene – Formed from the verb eiro - to
join or bind together that which has
been separated
Eirene can convey the sense of an inner
rest, well being and harmony.
Peace implies health, well-being, and
prosperity.

Peace in Hebrew– “‫”שלום‬ Shalom
Hebrew ‫לום‬ ָׁ
‫ש‬
, - security, safety, prosperity, felicity,
(because peace and harmony make and keep
things safe and prosperous)
Hebrew Shalom and means not just freedom from
trouble but everything that makes for a man’s
highest good.
Chara (Grace) and Eirene (Peace) both became very
common Christian Greetings / Blessings/
Doxology in the Church." (Galatians 5 )

“Christian peace is something quite independent
of outward circumstances. A man might live in
ease and luxury and on the fat of the land, he
might have the finest of houses and the biggest
of bank accounts, and yet not have peace; on the
other hand, a man might be starving in prison, or
dying at the stake, or living a life from which all
comfort had fled, and be at perfect peace.”

Joy (χαρά) Chara
Happy – Pleasure based on Physical Circumstances
Joy – Happiness based on Spiritual Reality
Joy - Chara (and rejoice) is Greek noun which describes a
feeling of inner gladness, delight or rejoicing. Joy is a
feeling of inner gladness, delight or rejoicing. Joy in
the NT is virtually always used to signify a feeling of
"happiness" that is based on spiritual realities (and
independent of what "happens"). Joy is an inner
gladness; a deep seated pleasure. It is a depth of
assurance and confidence that ignites a cheerful
heart. It is a cheerful heart that leads to cheerful
behavior. Joy is not an experience that comes from
favorable circumstances but is God’s gift to
believers.

Joy – Reward for All believers
(John 16:22 - No one will take away your joy)
The Pauline Epistles we see the term
very often “Rejoice” – Rejoice
come out of Joyous heart
Joy (χαρά) Chara [Close to the word
for Grace – Charis] – is an asset
to the believers to overcome
persecutions (in early church)

Romans 5:3-5: 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our
sufferings, knowing that suffering produces
endurance, 4 and endurance produces character,
and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not
put us to shame, because God's love has been
poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit
who has been given to us.
Ps 119:71 - It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that
I might learn thy statutes.
Phil 4:4 - Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again:
Rejoice!
Neh 8:10 - Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your
strength

Joy can be experienced when you do good to
the others (For e.g)
Joy can be experienced in hunger, trials,
imprisonment, persecution… etc
Whereas you can not experience
Happiness in those occasions??

there is a leak in your Christianity.” - -

Earthly Riches (Mat 6:19-34)
God does not promise poor and
insignificant life on the earth –
Many only think God’s Reward is
only Future oriented – NO
Satisfied Life Vs Abundant Life

Satisfied Life Vs Abundant Life
Life on Earth whatever measure one
lives it is not abundant life –
Death will separate them. The
promise of Satisfied life is possible
for all believers

Christian life is not Earthcentric but Heavencentric
Promises for the 7 churches in Revelation 2-3 (The rewards
are listed beautifully)
I did not run aimlessly (1 Cor 9:26-27)
Mat 25:21: “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and
faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few
things; I will put you in charge of many things.
Come and share your master’s happiness!’”

Rewards of Present Life (Peace – Joy – Riches)
Rewards of Future Life (Eternal Riches – Crowns)
All Through Christ Jesus - 1 Cor 1: 5, “For in
(Christ) him you have been enriched in
every way”

COMMITMENT
• Are you enjoying the rich rewards of God in the
present?
• Are you investing your life and energy in such a
manner as to have a promise of rich rewards in the
future?
• This was one of the hopes that sustained and
comforted the apostle Paul as he faced death (2 Tim.
4:7 – 8).
• If you have never trusted Jesus Christ, then you are
indeed poor. You are poor in your relationships,
resources, and rewards.
• Make him the Lord of your life so that he might
work within you and through you. He will enrich
others through you.
