The Sunpreme panel, shown in Figure 2, when backed with a reflective film generates 380 watts in full sun at its rated temperature of 25°C. If it were mounted in the conventional way using racks, it would heat up to 45°C reducing its electrical output by 15%. But by cooling it with water beginning at sunrise, when the water is at 10°C, the average panel temperature will be only 27.5°C. At sunset, the water temperature will be at or above 45°C, suitable for washing or pre-heated for cooking. The 50 volt output of the panel is reduced by a voltage regulator to 14 volts and can be used to charge a standard 12 volt battery to provide light, and/or radio-TV after sunset. Water can be circulated through the rubber tube strips without a pump by mounting a small water tank above the panel so that the heated water circulates by gravity-thermo-syphonation.
