This document describes research conducted on structural health monitoring using electro-mechanical impedance spectroscopy with macro fiber composite transducers. The research involved using MFC transducers bonded to an aluminum plate to detect damage by measuring changes in the structure's impedance spectrum. Both experimental testing and ANSYS simulations were performed. In experiments, an impedance analyzer was used to acquire impedance spectra from the undamaged and damaged plate and detect shifts in resonance peaks. Simulations helped guide experiment setup and validate results. The goal was to develop a database relating impedance spectra to damage location and severity to enable damage assessment.
