Short term responses like search and rescue teams, food/water aid, and monetary donations are crucial for helping earthquake victims in the immediate aftermath by meeting basic needs, as seen in responses to Japan 2011 and Haiti 2010 earthquakes. However, coordination issues can limit aid effectiveness, as in Haiti. Long term responses such as rebuilding infrastructure, developing earthquake-resistant housing, and helping refugees return home are also important to fully address the impacts, but require more time and resources, as shown by China's three-year recovery from the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Both short and long term responses play important roles in dealing with the humanitarian and social effects of earthquakes.
