Introduction
Soil Degradation
Soil Degradation
Soil degradation is when the ground where we grow plants and crops becomes
unhealthy and less useful. This happens because of things like soil erosion, cutting
down trees, using too many chemicals in farming, building cities on good soil, and
pollution. When the soil gets worse, it can't grow as much food, it can make the
water dirty, and it's not good for animals and plants.
What’s Soil Degradation?
Erosion,Deforestation, Urbanization and Pollution
Causes of Soil Degradation
C a u s e s
• Erosion:
Soil erosion is the process of soil being worn away or
removed from its original location, often by water or wind,
which can harm the land and reduce its fertility.
• Deforestation:
Cutting down trees and forest can lead to soil
erosion.
• Urbanization:
Urbanization takes farmland to build cities, which means
less space for farming, making it harder for farmers to grow
food.
• Pollution:
Pollution can harm soil and farming by
contaminating the soil with harmful substances like heavy
metals and chemicals, reducing soil quality, and affecting
crop growth and water quality.
Effects
of Soil Degradation
P o o r S o i l A f f e c t U s a l l :
Less food:
We rely on healthy soil for our crops.
Flooding:
Soil helps soak up rain; bad soil
causes floods.
Climate change:
Soil stores carbon; degraded soil
releases it.
Preventing
Soil Degradation
W e c a n d o t h e s e t h i n g s t o p r o t e c t o u r s o i l :
Crop rotation:
Planting different crops each year.
Terracing:
Making steps on hills to stop soil from washing away.
Reduce pollution:
Use fewer chemicals and recycle waste.
Plant trees:
Trees help keep soil in place.
What Can You Do?

Conserve water.
Don't waste food.
Use fewer chemicals in your garden.
4 Support laws and policies that
protect our soil.
You can help prevent soil degradation too!
Conclusion
Soil Degradation
C o n c l u s i o n :
In summary, soil degradation is a big
problem,
but we can all do our part to keep our
soil healthy. It's not just dirt;
it's the foundation of life on Earth.
