Learning Experiences A. Preparatory Activities 1. Drill  Have the students find either the sum or difference of the following: 1. 30 – 13 .5 2. 87 - 26.5 3. 39 + 54 4. 37 – 13.5 5. 59 = 17.5 2. Review  Let the pupils read the temperature indicated in the thermometers below: . 3. Motivation  Let the pupils tell the following statements are true or not.  If it is true, say “ Yes” if it is not, say “No” 1. Bea has a fever. Her temperature is 20°C. 2. The water is boiling. Its temperature is 100°C. 3. People feel comfortable when the air temperature is 48°C.  Ask the students: in statement number 3, how many °C should the temperature be lowered for people to feel comfortable? What is the normal room temperature?

  B. Developmental Activities 1.Presentation  Have the pupils read and solve the problem below. 1. Mother wants to find out if her son has a fever. She got her thermometer and found out that the mercury level in the thermometer is at 38.5°C. If the normal body temperature is 37.5°C, how much higher is her son’s temperature than the normal body temperature?  What did mother want to find out?  What did she do?  What data did she get?  What are given in the problem?  What is asked?  Knowing all these facts, what do you plan to do in order to find the answer to the question?  Let the pupils write the number sentence and solve.  Ask the pupils: Without actually solving, can you tell at once if the boy has a fever or not? How? 2. Fixing Skills A. Solve the problem:  At the start of the marathon the thermometer registered a temperature of 36°C. After the marathon, the temperature dropped by 4°C. What was the temperature after the marathon?  Look at the chart of temperature readings in a day. 6:00 a.m. --- 24.5°C 8:00 a.m. --- 28°C 10:00 a.m.-– 30.4°C 12:00 a.m. ---31°C  At what time was it coolest?  Did the temperature go up or go down during the morning?  What was the difference in temperature at 6:00 o’clock and 8:00 o’clock?  How much hotter is the temperature at 12:00 o’clock than the temperature at 8:00 o’clock?  How much less is the temperature at 6:00 o’clock than the temperature at 12:00 o’clock? 3. Generalization  Ask the pupils:  How will you solve problems involving temperature? a) Understand the problem. What i/are given? What is being asked? b) Plan what to do. What process will you use to solve the problem? Write the number sentence c) Solve for the answer.

They observed that the water started to boil at a temperature 6.5°C lower than that of the boiling point of water at sea level. What is the boiling point of water at the top of the mountain? IV.
