 1.By treatment of the fats and oils with
an alkali solution, the free fatty acid
converts into water soluble soaps.
2.Phospholipids carbohydrates and
proteins also can be changed to water
soluble substances with hydration.
3 After the alkali treatment, the fats and
oils are washed with water to remove
residual water soluble soaps.
SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 10
 1.Hydrogenation process operate on Dead End
principle and is used for increase of the melting point of
unsaturated oils, fats and fatty acids
 2.Hydrogenation reaction is carried out under hydrogen
gas pressure in presence of Nickel catalyst , high
temperature and nil moisture conditions such that
addition of hydrogen molecule across the double bond
or repositioning of double bond converts liquid oils to
hard fats with selected higher melting points
• Simple operation
• Process control is accurately monitored through
instrumentation.
• Precise control of various parameters such as
temperature, gas pressure and catalyst dosage
enables similar quality batch after batch.
• Economy The superior reactor and agitator design
assures proper selectivity, optimum gas consumption,
low power consumption. and higher production due to
lower reaction time
SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 11

SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 13
 1.This is a process of removing components
with high melting point (e.g. waxes) from
some vegetable oils, e.g. sunflower, rice bran
and cotton seed oil or partially hydrogenated
soya bean oil. Winterizing mainly consists in
cooling these oils gradually and filtering them
at low temperature in special filters or by
centrifugal separators. Our plants are
designed for batch or semi continuous
process.
 2.Various new combinations of filtration
techniques are offered for high yields
SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 14
 1.Vegetable Oil is too soft for Margarine
or Shortening because it is liquid.
Saturated fat is too hard
 2.Which creates health hazard issues.
 3.So Margarine requires something in
the middle
 4.These kinds of problems are taken
care off at our Company while the
implications of Margarine & shortenings
SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 15
 Raw material preparation - The seed is first cleaned and
passed through cracker mill to give two to six pieces of seed.
These pieces are cooked and flecked to bring free oil to surface
for easy extraction. Flaked material goes either for direct
extraction after moisture and temperature control or to
Expander Extruder for free oil recovery and further oil cell
rupturing to give porous extruded collets ready for extraction.
These collets are cooled before feeding to extractor.
The bran is also cleaned and then compressed together to form
pellets which are also cooled before feeding to extractor. The
cakes are broken into smaller pieces before feeding to
extractor.
 Extraction - Collets/pellets/flakes/cake and N-Hexane are fed
to extractor in counter current flow under regulated conditions
of temperature, vacuum, circulation flow rates etc and extraction
is carried out in different stages to give Miscella & Meal.
 Distillation - Miscella is passed through continuous 3 stage
distillation process to separate Oil and recover N - Hexane; and
 Desolventisation - Meal is desolventised and toasted to
remove and recover the solvent.
SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 16
 Pretreatment – Degumming and washing, Bleaching, Deacidification,
Esterification.
 Biodiesel section –
 St 19 KOH- Methanol mixing,
 St 61 Neutralization,
 St 62 Transesterification I,
 St 63 Transesterification II
 St 64 Methyl ester washing - neutral
 St 65 Methyl ester washing - acidic
 St 66 Methyl ester washing - neutral
 St 81 Methyl ester Drying
 St 71 Raw glycerin purification- soap splitting
 St 73 Salt Seperation,
 St 86 Methanol recovery & rectification,
 St 86 Glycerine water evaporation
 St 90 Methyl ester distillation / Fractional Distillation
 The single stage counter current splitting
process in a tower is particularly suited for the
handling of larger feed rates. It operates
continuously, permitting maximum heat
recovery . The splitting temperature of 245-
255 deg C ensures adequate dissolving of
aqueous phase in the fat so that physical
agitation is not required. The crude fat pass
through the tower from bottom to top as a
coherent phase, while the heavy splitting
water travels down wards as a dispersed
phase through the mixture of fat and fatty
acid. Splitting efficiency of 99% and above are
reached consistently
SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 18
 Fatty acid produced from various fats splitting
process are purified by distillation and can
also be separated into individual fatty- Acids
by fractional distillation.
Fatty acids are very sensitive to heat,
oxidation & corrosion effects due to the
presence of acid group so material of
construction is very important.
SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 19
 fractionation makes it possible to separate the
fatty acid mixture in to narrower cuts Or even
individual component. Detergent grade feed
stock C12-C18 is separated from the whole
cut by topping off the C8-C10 fraction. The
middle cut, C12-C14, can be further
Fractionated from the C12-C18 Cut through
the multistage Fractionation by employing two
or more columns. Basically, each stage uses
the deaerator, heat source, fractionation
column, Condensing system , and vacuum
source. Vacuum system is provide
Independently for each column to achieve
heighst vacuum and greater recovery of
desired products. The following diagram
shows the fractionation process. Achievable
purities are approx. 99.5% for a C12 fraction
from palm kernel or coconut fatty acid and
approx. 95% for a c22 fraction from rapeseed
oil fatty acid, respectively.

  • 19.  Fatty acid produced from various fats splitting process are purified by distillation and can also be separated into individual fatty- Acids by fractional distillation. Fatty acids are very sensitive to heat, oxidation & corrosion effects due to the presence of acid group so material of construction is very important. SPEC Engineers & consultant Pvt.Ltd. 19
  • 20.  fractionation makes it possible to separate the fatty acid mixture in to narrower cuts Or even individual component. Detergent grade feed stock C12-C18 is separated from the whole cut by topping off the C8-C10 fraction. The middle cut, C12-C14, can be further Fractionated from the C12-C18 Cut through the multistage Fractionation by employing two or more columns. Basically, each stage uses the deaerator, heat source, fractionation column, Condensing system , and vacuum source. Vacuum system is provide Independently for each column to achieve heighst vacuum and greater recovery of desired products. The following diagram shows the fractionation process. Achievable purities are approx. 99.5% for a C12 fraction from palm kernel or coconut fatty acid and approx. 95% for a c22 fraction from rapeseed oil fatty acid, respectively.
