Spotle AI-thon - AI For Good Business Plan Showcase - Cummins College
Food security is access to enough food by all people at all time for an active and
healthy life. India is truly developing now and its income, infrastructure, per capita
income has also developed . But the major problem faced by India is “the problem food
management and it’s distribution”. The International food policy research institute
(IFPR) classified the status of hunger into five category-low, moderate, serious,
alarming and extremely alarming. India falls into the category of alarming. The most
important aspect contributing to this development is the non availability of basic
requirement of food. It has been observed that the consumption of food, in terms of
nutrition and quantity, is lacking far behind. According to the study conducted by
National Institute of Nutrition, the minimum per capita food grain required for an adult
is 182.5kg/year whereas in India, the availability is only 173.6kg/year and as far as the
protein requirement is concerned, the daily intake should be 50mg but the situation
seems to remain stagnant, the per capita daily intake is only 10mg. The major
contributor to food scarcity in India is lack of equal food distribution- the irony of
surplus food being disposed off after grand parties and feasts in contrast to millions
of children dying on the roadside due to malnourishment and starvation. To counter
this issue and bring equal food-redistribution, we have developed an AI-governed
app called 'FairFood', which enables efficient and dynamic food-distribution of the
excess generated at events about to be disposed off and direct it towards the slum
areas, NGOs and poor sections of the society. The app can predict things like food
quantity versus the time available for redistribution and can make intelligent decisions
to ensure a seamless process, thereby making the app practically usable and accessible
for mass usage.

Problem Statement
According to Food and Agriculture Organization, 'The
State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, 2020
report, 189.2 million people are undernourished in India.
By this measure 14% of the population is undernourished
in India. Also, 51.4% of women in reproductive age
between 15 to 49 years are anaemic. Hunger is the major
problem especially in developing countries like India. To
develop a model for efficient and dynamic collection of data
wastage points and direct the excess food to the deficit
regions of the country to ensure equitable food distribution
and optimal food and grain usage.
Solution
Making donation of surplus food extremely time-efficient and
seamless through our AI-governed app (tentatively named
FairFood ) tackle two major problems-Wastage of food and
hunger. This can be done by developing interface which will
allow people with excess food from weddings, parties,
corporate office canteens, restaurants, and other events to
donate it to the needy people at the nearest possible location.

Target Audience and Market Size
Anybody who wants to help the hungry people can install
this App. But the major target audience are NGO's,
Orphanages, Slum Areas, General Hospitals, Child Care,
Shop Owners etc.
Food Donor – They can enter the details of food such as
address of pickup, quantity of food, date of preparation,
time of preparation, expiry Date etc.
Food Receiver - After entering his location address, he
can find out where the food is available in the nearby
locality. They can also accept the food by entering his
name and pickup time.

• Food donor and food receiver can login/signup to this app.
• Donor organizations can make a food donation post (contact
information, approx. quantity of food available , location, time
available for clearing off the excess food etc.).
• Recipient organizations/individuals can also make a food request
post (contact information, approximate people, etc.).
• Both the donors and recipients can view the lists of available food
donors and recipients.
• After a certain amount of time when the food donation is
successfully completed, post entries are automatically deleted
from both donor and recipient lists.
Revenue model
Since we came up with the idea for the app
under the theme AI for ‘Social good’, the app
could be initially used free of cost to increase
its reach and user database. It could then be
gradually commercialized.
Impact Created
Can potentially ensure equal food
distribution by addressing a major issue
with excess food disposal at events in
contrast to having little food in poverty or
famine afflicted regions. If executed with
the right mindset, this app has the
potential to reduce the food shortage and
surplus balance, thereby bringing in
balance in the economy.

Initially, it would require a maximum
of 5 people to ensure smooth
functioning of the app owing to its
