The End of the Road
Quick recap of what the last things we need to take care of before meeting for the last time...
Persuasive Speech Commemorative Speech Portfolio Submission  We’re all set with the Informative Speech , right?*
Persuasive Speech
Technically, you should be done and ready for it, right? If you’re not, take it as a blessing in disguise so that you can perfect your assignment.
Just make sure to remember the following requirements.
1. You need to have developed your main points on deductive reasoning. Remember the syllogism format? If not, the explanation on how to set up an infallible argument is posted on The Q (under Assignments) and you can find the info in your textbook pp. 144-146.
2. Did you remember to back up each premise with the appropriate statistics, research, or data that supports your point 100%? Without stats, it's just an opinion.
3. Your statistics were prepared by experts and other reputable sources, right?  Cite them throughout your speech. Make sure to include a Works Cited page to your outline.
4. Finally, please remember to bring an extra copy of your outline for me.
Commemorative Speech
The goal of a commemorative speech is to pay tribute to...
A person or couple:  retirement speech  eulogy wedding toast
A group:  your class sorority/fraternity a nonprofit organization commencement speech
An institution:  a new library opening up the new World Trade Center that will be going up Etc.
Commemorative Instructions Your speech must have a title. Your speech should be about 5 minutes long. You do  not have to use a visual aid. This speech is supposed to focus on creating images with language rather than using actual pictures. Your speech must be organized topically. It should not be organized chronologically.  Make sure that each of your main points describes a specific trait of your subject that explains why they are deserving of a tribute.
Commemorative Instructions No sources are required for this speech. You may use any type of speaking notes for this speech. You will write this speech in essay form rather than in preparation outline form.  You must turn in your manuscript before giving the speech.  PROOFREAD your speech because grammar will count more for this speech than previous ones.
Your speech will be graded for clarity, vivid and interesting use of language, grammatical writing, and effectiveness of delivery.

Your portfolio should comprise of the following:
Lecture Essay Journal Entries Teammates Feedback Peer Evaluations Commemo-rative Essay Journal Entry Final Report Reflective Essay Self-Evaluation
Oh, yeah… That one assignment we keep forgetting about…
1. Communication Experiment Communication Style Quiz (we did this on our second class) Listening Self-Evaluation #1 (we did this on our third class) and Listening Self-Evaluation #2 (please have a second version filled in your portfolio - you can find a copy online on The Q, under  Handouts ) Journal entry Observation  Journal entries #1 to #5) Final report where you give an analysis of the experience. The pros, cons, what worked, what didn't, what you would add or change, etc.
2. Peer Evaluation (If you did not post all your classmates evaluation online)
3. Evaluation of your own speeches
4. Any missing paperwork, Like your interview essay (Which may or may not be eligible for points when submitted late.)
Plus any other comments which may be useful for me to give better assignments.
Finally, help me make this class better By providing me with feedback
5. Prepare a Student Essay Where You Analyze this class and it's organization What helps you to learn in this class? What hinders your learning in this class? What could you do for yourself to make this class go better for you? What specific questions/content are still unclear to you? What is one thing you know you will  remember  from this class? What is one element that you know you  will use  beyond this class?  1 to 2 pages will be sufficient.
Thank you so much for being a great class. It was certainly a privilege for me to accompany you a little while on your life journey.
