This review investigates the role of stretching in recovery for athletes, highlighting its various types and potential impacts on range of motion (ROM), stiffness, and soreness. It concludes that while stretching can be beneficial, especially when pain-free and dynamic, there is insufficient evidence to support its necessity in recovery protocols, and other modalities may provide better outcomes. The authors suggest re-evaluating the common practice of mandatory stretching in athletic training, proposing that active recovery methods may be more effective.
