31. STS. PETER AND PAUL
CATHEDRAL PARISH
SEAL
Symbols and
Meanings
32. 1. MITER – Symbolizes the
authority and office of the
bishop, whose Cathedra is
located at the Sts. Peter and
Paul Cathedral Parish. In the
miter is also seen a white
image, it symbolizes the
Holy Spirit that is always at
work. The yellow color of the
miter also symbolizes the
radiance and the glory of
God that is on top of
everything. That in all things
God is glorified.
33. 2. MT. BULUSAN – the
mountain is the reminder of
how the Sorsoganons
turned to God especially in
times of danger. It may have
erupted many times, but the
faith of the people did not
waver in moments of trial,
but it has strengthened the
foundation of the people,
that it is only the Lord that
can grant us safety and
comfort.
34. 3. THE STARS OF
EVANGELIZATION – It
symbolizes the Hopes and
Dreams of Sorsoganons,
that we continue to look
forward. That we respond to
the signs of the times
accordingly
35. 4. ST. PAUL'S SWORD – (RED-
it started off as the blood of
persecuted Christians, but
now, as his blood as a
Martyr for Christ) (SWORD –
The sword that once
attacked Christians is now a
symbol of a defender of the
Faith. St. Paul showed his
great zeal in defending the
Church against heretics).
Also, the LETTER P in the
sword stands for Peter and
Paul
36. 5. ST. PETER'S KEYS – (BLUE –
it symbolizes the heavenly
graces bestowed upon St.
Peter) (KEYS – It depicts the
Divine Office Vested upon
him by Jesus Christ, it
symbolizes the Keys to the
Gates of Heaven.)
37. 6. THE DOME – this has been
an iconic part of the parish
ever since its making. It
shows how our faith is seen
rising and glimmering in the
Sun. It also symbolizes how
our faith is iconic in terms of
resiliency and beauty, that
amidst the different
challenges of times we
continue to flourish with
renewed strength and
fortified spirit.
38. 7. THE 4 OTHER VICARIATES
SYMBOL – The symbols of
different Vicariates namely: the
Image of Our Lady of the Pillar
(Pilar), The Lily, Tau Cross, and
Rosary of St. Anthony of Padua
(Gubat), The wings and sword of
St. Michael the Archangel (Irosin)
and the Insignia of Mary
embellished with 12 stars of the
Our Lady of the Immaculate
Conception (Bulan), symbolizes
the Unity of the 5 vicariates. It
also shows how we are
connected to the Cathedra of the
Bishop of the Diocese of
Sorsogon.
39. 8. THE ROPE – it symbolizes the
faith of Sorsoganons. It is firm,
strong and is ready to reach out
to those who are in need. The
rope is seen wrapped around the
keys and tied in the sword to
symbolize the role of Sts. Peter
and Paul as the Principal Patron
of the Diocese. The faith of
Sorsoganons truly holds
everyone together.
40. 9. The Pen Shell – the pen shell is
a type of clam that is endemic to
Sorsogon. It has been a primary
source of income for the people.
And the shell represents the
uniqueness, diligence, and the
people of Sorsogon itself
