INTORDUCTION  Tobacco smoking is the practice where the substance, tobacco, is burned (pyrolyzed) and the vapors either tasted or inhaled. The practice dates back to 5000 BC in shamanistic rituals. Smoking is the most common method of consuming tobacco. Tobacco is likewise the most common substance smoked. The agricultural product is often mixed with other additives.
Cigarette smoking kills nearly about 420,000 people a year  Smoke also contains nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide, which are harmful gases.  Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco encased in cigarettes, pipes, and cigars.
The  New England Journal of Medicine study  found smoking already accounts for 900,000 deaths a year in India.  It is estimated that there are about 120 million smokers in India. The study found that, among men, about 61% of those who smoke can expect to die at ages 30-69 compared with only 41% of otherwise similar non-smokers. Among women, 62% of those who smoke can expect to die at ages 30-69 compared with only 38% of non-smokers.

According  to Dr. S.k jindal : Different smoking forms and relationship with demographic variable. The prevalence of smoking in 28.5% of men and 2.1% women.
